Welcome to Anchorage
Anchorage is a unique American destination filled with nature adventure. It is the northernmost city in the U.S. and most populous city in Alaska, with a population of about 298,000 residents. In fact, Anchorage contains more than 40 percent of the state's total population. But its locals only add to the gorgeous natural landscape. For many travelers, Anchorage serves as the gateway into Alaska - the state with the greatest concentration of glaciers, massive national parks and stunning wildlife. As far as climate goes, the weather is much like what you'd expect. Temperatures peak in the 60s during the summertime and approach zero degrees Fahrenheit in the winter months, so dress prepared!
The best thing to do is to dress in layers. Even if it's the warmest day in summer, spending it on a glacier or out on the water means adjusting. Alaska is a fairly casual place, so bring casual clothes and comfortable shoes - there are more than 135 miles of paved trails inside the city. Carrying a pair of binoculars isn't a bad idea either, since chances are you'll be wildlife viewing during your vacation.
