Formerly Japan's imperial capital, Kyoto remains to be a central part of Honshu Island. Kyoto is now the beaming capital of Kyoto Prefecture, and though dojos, temples, and old wooden buildings preserve Japan's imperial dynasty, the city has emerged to be one of the country's major metropolitan areas. Kyoto is one of Japan's regions that have remained untouched by earthquakes or radiation changes. Japan's seventh largest city still has some of the country's priceless shrines and temples. Some of those worth visiting include the Nijo Castle, the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Kiyomizudera, Sanjusangendo, and the Nishiki Market whose grandeur still pervades. Strolling throughout the city by donning a kimono almost become necessary just to match the its distinct allure. The ponds of Shugakuin Villa, the open spaces of the Ryoanji Temple, and the cherry blossoms of the Philosopher's Path are perfect for a serene vacation. Add a little life by heading to Gion, and sample Kyoto's world-famous geisha district, where hostesses still dress with the fanciest kimonos and whitest faces just to entertain guests.
