Brighton is one of several neighborhoods in Boston that used to be a city of its own. Named after Brighton, a town located in England, the neighborhood was once known as Little Cambridge as it was a part of the city of the same name. Separating from Cambridge in 1807, Brighton was its own city until it was annexed to Boston in 1874.
