"Decent historic hotel. but the outside booking agency was a ripoff."

Neat historic hotel right off I40 and RT 66. Restaurant was good. but on the road called the 888 number and didn't get the hotel but instead some sort of booking agent. He claimed there was a $50 "TAX" on the room. turns out it was only a small amount of tax the rest were "Fees". If I were the hotel I'd review what kind of brokers they are dealing with.

This place is a blast from the past in a good way! Amazing lobby, fun and funky old school elevator, rooms are each themed to an old Hollywood actor complete with framed poster. On site restaurant had tasty diner style food. Super convenient if you are going thru Gallup.

Who wouldn't want to hang out where John Wayne used to stay while filming his western movies? El Rancho is a perfect picture of the past with a pristine building with amazing southwestern decor. Rooms and bathrooms are extremely clean. Cleaner than a lot of “modern” hotels I have stayed at. There's also a restaurant and bar inside. No need to leave the hotel. It's a must stay hotel.

Property Description
The historic El Rancho hotel was built in 1936 and opened its doors in 1937. It was the hotel to the stars with movie greats like John Wayne, Cary Grant, Dean Martin and Lucille Ball staying here while filming. The El Rancho kept it old west charm, while celebrating both the Navajo and Spanish roots this area is well known for.
We have an authentic trading post featuring local jewelry and pottery and of course the famous route 66 merchandise. Our restaurant serves Mexican-American food, and features New Mexico wines. The 49er Lounge is a great place to relax, enjoy a New Mexican Beer or spirit.
