The Inside Scoop by our Local Expert
The Freeman Coliseum is a special place for many San Antonians. The community-owned sports and event venue isn't just the former site of the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo; it also hosts graduations, concerts, boxing events, musicians, and more. The grounds are home to the San Antonio Spurs and the AT&T Center – where the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is now held.Built in 1949, the Coliseum has played host to many celebrities over the years including Elvis Presley, Roy Rogers, KISS, Green Day, and Rod Stewart. It was also home to two ice hockey teams. It is available for commercial, nonprofit, and non-commercial events in its more than 30,000 square feet (additional square footage is available in four adjacent exhibit halls). The hotels convenient to the Freeman Coliseum offer access to many of San Antonio's downtown attractions as well but without the downtown San Antonio prices. Many feature complimentary breakfasts and high-speed Internet access.
