At certain times of the year, the hotel prices will increase as the result of events in the Syracuse area. During the late spring and early summer, outdoor festivals take place nearly every weekend. These events draw in visitors, which can cause a slight increase in hotel prices. During college football season, Syracuse Orange home football games will also result in higher prices for hotel rooms. Keep an eye on the schedule and try to visit when the team is playing away games, or skip football season entirely if you're trying to get a great deal on lodging.
It's easy to get a great deal on a hotel room during the winter since the snowfall will increase dramatically. If you're willing to brave the cold and snow, head to the area in December or January. During the holiday season, you can take part in the annual lighting of the Christmas tree and Hanukkah menorah or drive through the Lights on the Lake, a 2-mile stretch featuring impressive holiday light displays. In February, Syracuse hosts Winterfest, a 10-day celebration with activities and events for all ages.
To show appreciation to military and government personnel, several hotels in the area offer discounts to these individuals and their families as well. Options include Best Western Plus East Syracuse Inn, Best Western The Inn at the Fairgrounds, and Best Western Plus Liverpool Syracuse Inn & Suites.
Group discounts are also available at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Syracuse, Jefferson Clinton Hotel Syracuse, Quality Inn & Suites Syracuse, and Red Roof Inn Syracuse. If you're a member of AAA, several Syracuse hotels offer discounted rates. Some of these properties include Sleep Inn & Suites Airport, Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center, Marriott Syracuse Downtown, Residence Inn Syracuse Downtown at Armory Square, and Hampton Inn & Suites Syracuse North Airport Area.
When visiting Syracuse, you can rent a car for easier transportation during your stay. Many of the hotels charge for on-site parking. Some of the top attractions in Syracuse include the Erie Canal Museum, housed in a building from the mid-19th century, the Everson Museum of Art, and the Onondaga Historical Association.
