Created in 1906, the Memphis Zoo made its home in Overton Park more than 100 years ago. The facility is home to about 3,500 animals that represent over 500 different species. Sprawling more than 70 acres, the zoo is known as one of the finest zoological parks in the nation. In 2008, TripAdvisor.com ranked the Memphis Zoo the “#1 Zoo in the United States.”Within the last 20 years, the zoo has undergone $80 million dollars of major renovations and expansions. Today, you'll find that the zoo's animals make their homes in three different zones – East, Central, and West. Visit Ya Ya and Le Le, the zoo's Giant Pandas, or discover the variety of tropical fish at the aquarium.
