The Savannah center is about the area of Bowles Fine Art and 1 mile south of Beach Institute African.
Savannah is a great destination no matter the season, but spring is the most popular time to visit. From March to May, temperatures are mild and the flowers are blooming. This time of year also brings a frenzy of seasonal festivals, which makes spring Savannah's high season. Hotel rates are going to be on the pricier side until summer when sweltering temperatures drive the crowds away. If you can stand the heat, you can take advantage of drastic summertime savings.
Savannah's shoulder season is from mid-September to mid-November, making it a nice sweet spot that combines affordable prices with ideal weather. The city sees another dip in hotel prices in January and February after the holiday season. Since there's really no bad time to visit Savannah, it's best to ask yourself whether the heat or crowds would bother you most, and plan your trip accordingly.
If you know where to look, you can take advantage of special deals throughout Savannah. Many hotels offer discounts for seniors, military, and AAA members, so don't be afraid to ask. Official tourism websites also offer coupons on lodging, dining, activities, and attractions.
As with any destination, you'll want to book your room and flight at least three weeks in advance to enjoy a low rate. With that being said, last-minute deals are often available, but you run the risk of missing out on your preferred travel dates. If you plan on staying several days, inquire about any multi-day discounts and package deals when booking your hotel.
For those wanting a mid-range experience that's not quite low-budget but not as costly as a luxury hotel, Savannah offers a range of valuable lodgings for the moderate budget. The three-star Courtyard Savannah Downtown/Historic District – Marriott is a great option in the heart of Savannah. Enjoy high-speed Internet access, on-site laundry, valet dry-cleaning, in-room entertainment, local restaurant delivery, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, and the reasonably priced Courtyard Café breakfast buffet.
The newly renovated DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Savannah Historic District is another great option. Located blocks from City Market and River Street, this accommodation offers a heated outdoor pool and whirlpool, a 24-hour business center, and multiple meeting rooms. Enjoy on-site dining at John Ryan's Bistro and John Ryan's Pub before winding down in your stylish hotel room.
The Hyatt Regency Savannah is an upscale hotel on the Savannah River, but it boasts a more moderate price than many of the luxury places in the area. Enjoy riverfront views from your room and the on-site restaurant, a heated indoor pool, room service, and Hyatt's popular YogaAway program. You can even book a guided tour and inquire about other local activities at the front desk.
Most visitors clamor for the chance to stay in Savannah's Historic District for good reason. The district offers numerous shops, swanky lodgings, landmark buildings, and yummy dining options mere steps from your hotel lobby. River Street, in particular, is often crowded and has a carnival-style atmosphere that's hard to miss. If you're staying at one of the excellent accommodations along River Street, be prepared for street noise all night long. If you'd rather not sleep with ear plugs, ask for a quiet room facing Bay Street instead, or check to see if the hotel offers noise-reducing windows.
Savannah is also one of the few cities in the country with an open container policy, which means you can stroll around the historic district with an alcoholic beverage, as long as it's contained in a plastic cup. If walking around town isn't ideal, take advantage of the city's DOT shuttle bus, which provides free public transportation.
One of the best ways to acclimate yourself to Savannah is to take a tour your first full day there. Thankfully, the city offers a number of guided tour options. The popular trolley tours focus on Savannah's history, and the hop-on hop-off passes make it easy to get around while learning about the city's highlights. Going on a ghost tour is also a must. It's common knowledge among the locals that every corner of Savannah has a story to tell, so if you don't mind a little creep factor, book a guided ghost tour or haunted pub crawl.
When planning a trip to Savannah, it's important to explore your options. Draw up an itinerary of must-see spots and find a hotel that places you in the heart of the action. Whether you need a cheap lodging or an upscale hotel with all the perks, you'll find a hotel in Savannah to fit your travel budget.
When it comes to beauty, Savannah is in a league of its own. Seventeen miles upstream from the river, Georgia's old town gem comes unparalleled. American towns no longer hold that kind of distinct beauty, characterized by garden squares swathed by Spanish moss, encircled by perfectly preserved historic districts. But of course, Georgia tells you that kind of beauty isn't elusive, at least when you're in Savannah. Millions of tourists head to the Atlantic port to wallow on every architectural style from the 18th and 19th century available, partnered by a timeless cobbled waterfront and old cotton warehouses on the side. Savannah almost lost its appeal throughout the years, have the citizens not pursued a restoration in the sixties. The Hostess City of the South promises to take you to new heights, or more appropriately, the oldest sights. Its signature southern charm has attracted artists into the town, most of who reside because of the Savannah College of Art and Design. With a population keen on restoration, it's not impossible to imagine that Savannah can get prettier.
