The area expanded out from there, first by adding an additional 48 rooms to the original Riverside Resort hotel in 1972 and then more additions in 1986 that included a 14-floor high rise. More casinos joined the area as well, and today there are nine casinos in all. Laughlin funded the building of a bridge in 1987 to cross the Colorado River that borders Laughlin and later donated it to the states of Nevada and Arizona.
Best Time of Year to Visit Laughlin, NV
Located in Nevada, it's not surprising to learn that Laughlin has a desert climate. High temperatures often exceed 110 degrees F in the height of summer — July and August — with lows landing around 78 to 90 degrees F. Winters here are very mild with the lowest temperatures averaging 44 degrees at night and still getting up to mid-60s and low 70s from December to February. Accordingly, the best time to visit the area is from January to March. If you want to swim in the pool, then try to plan a trip in spring or fall. One thing to note is that weekend rates for rooms rise drastically on the weekend, so if you're looking for a deal, come on a Sunday through Thursday night.
There are also events throughout the year that draw in visitors. In September is the Laughlin Shootout that includes a bull riding competition. April holds Laughlin Rodeo Days — five days of various rodeo competition, which is fun for the whole family. Because Laughlin is neighbors with Bullhead City in Arizona (which is in the Mountain Time Zone), the New Year's holiday is a fun time to visit. Celebrate the New Year in Bullhead City and then cross the bridge and celebrate an hour later in Laughlin. The third week in September is the Talent Quest National Karaoke Singing Contest held in Laughlin as well.
