In 1802, Detroit was an incorporated village and not until 1815 did it change its status from village to city. It held the position as state capital from 1837 to 1847.
The cities emergence as the major site for car manufacturing came about due to its convenient location to railroad transportation that made it easier to ship and receive materials and finished products.
Detroit has also been associated with the "Motown Sound" that erupted in the city during the 1960s with the smooth sounds of soul music. The company remained in Detroit until 1972. History lives on as the company is now part of the Capitol Music Group located in the historic Capital Records Tower in Los Angeles.

The high season runs from May to September with the summer months being the busiest. Temperatures during this time can reach the low 80s making this an ideal time for outdoor activities. Awesome dinner at the Parthenon and dessert at the bakery across the street in Greektown after shopping at the sports store. We got to walk along the Thanksgiving day parade on our way to the Lions game at Ford field. And had a great meal at Sweetwater tavern. Always a great treat.
