If you are like me, you take a 4 or 5 star hotel rating seriously. Nowadays, hotel rating systems seem relative. A property can claim they are four star because they offer a certain amount of amenities, without actually executing the level of SERVICE that sets them apart from their peers. The Royal Sonesta is here to fulfill not only your NEEDS as a traveler, but your WANTS as a vacationer. Yes, they have the amenities: pool, concierge, banquet facilities, and room service. But there is something more. Whether it's the unique architecture that embodies the French influence of New Orleans, or the staff that make the Sonesta hum, entering the Sonesta from any of it's doorways is like stepping into another world. The rooms, while smaller than box brands, are beautifully appointed with half-canopies and luxury linens. There are several tiers of indulgence for most budgets, so if it's a special occasion go ahead and splurge on a balcony, or the RClub Concierge level. All 483 smoke-free rooms are immaculately arranged and feature a fully stocked mini-bar. There are several options for dining, from the casual (and always busy) Desire Oyster Bar to the Revolution Restaurant and adjoining lounge. Mayfield's Jazz Club is a well-renowned live music venue, with no cover every day except Wednesday. Brides should know that this is a premiere wedding destination hotel, so be prepared to meet an F&B minimum to set your block here. The Royal Sonesta is a destination on its own, but if you walk out the door to any direction you will find everything the downtown has to offer.

From the moment we arrived the welcoming warmth was felt. The atmosphere can't be manufactured. It has to come from the spirit of the staff and we experienced that from everyone. Our ONLY complaint was the housekeeping staff. In my particular room, the floor was not vacuumed and the floor mat/towel, as well as the washcloths, were not replaced. They left the used washcloths in the shower. We had traveled the previous day and it was sweltering there. By the time we arrived in our room to take another shower, it was pretty late and we didn't want to bother the front desk, but it did affect us from possibly recommending the hotel. Fortunately, we had brought additional towels. and the washcloths were There were 11 of us there to celebrate a 50th birthday. We came from Illinois and California. Honestly, we would have given your facility a five star review based on the earth, friendliness and repeated effort to go out of their way to make our visit the best possible.

HistoryThe site of the Royal Sonesta Hotel dates back to 1721 when French military engineer, Adrien de Pauger first laid out the city of New Orleans. Originally, houses, courtyards and carriageways occupied the 300 block of Bourbon Street. During the 19th Century, Bourbon Street became a thriving commercial district with everything from a costume shop to a winery. In 1890, the American Brewing Company purchased the winery and expanded the building to encompass an entire city block. Nearly 70 years later, the owners of the Sonesta brand, the Sonnabends, were introduced to developer Lester Kabacoff and soon the site of the old brewery would be repurposed. In 1967, the Vieux Carre Commission approved plans to begin construction of what would become a landmark French Quarter hotel. Two years later, the Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans opened its doors. LocationThe Royal Sonesta Hotel is a 4 Diamond approved hotel located in the heart of the historic French Quarter on one of the world's most famous entertainment corridors, Bourbon Street. The hotel is within walking distance to the Mississippi Riverfront, the Central Business District, and world famous visitor attractions. The Louis Armstrong International Airport is approximately 16 miles from the hotel's front door.AccommodationsThe Royal Sonesta is constructed in the rich traditional French Quarter style, with gabled windows, double French doors and wrought iron laced balconies. Each of the 483 guest rooms offers views of vibrant French Quarter life, a stunning pool and patio terrace, or the lush tropical courtyard and fountain. All guest rooms are smoke-free and feature flat-screen televisions, pillow-top mattresses, in room safes and high-speed Internet access. The R Club, a hotel within a hotel, is a luxurious space on the 7th floor with a private keyed access, personalized concierge service and an intimate lounge with adjoining terrace. Royal Sonesta Hotel is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our operation through adopting initiatives to reduce, reuse and recycle at every opportunity possible. Guest Room Programs: •The guest room energy management system manages heating and cooling when guests are not present. •Guest rooms are now lit by state-of-the-art compact florescent lighting.•To reduce water consumption, low-flow faucets, showerheads and toilets were installed. •Guests have the option of reusing their bed linens and towels. Food & Beverage Programs: •Organic, local and sustainable food products are used whenever possible. •Air conditioning and lights are controlled by automated building system and turned off when meeting room is not occupied. •All leftover perishable food is utilized in the employee cafeteria.
