Located in Anchorage, Alaska, the Alaska Botanical Garden has over 1,100 species of perennials and 150 native plant species. The grounds, which are located in a spruce and birch woodland, cover 110 acres and are open year-round during daylight hours.Formally opened in July of 1993, the Alaska Botanical Garden features two perennial gardens, a formal herb garden, an alpine rock garden, and a wildflower walk. In addition, a new Perennial Border Garden is currently under construction. Each of the gardens is designed with a special purpose or theme in mind. Flowering plants and shrubs can be found between May and September of each year, and various tours, workshops, and special events are held throughout the year. An annual garden fair and art show is held every June.Visitors are encouraged to experience the beauty of the Alaska Botanical Garden for recreational, educational, and research purposes alike. Visitors who become particularly inspired upon visiting are able to visit the nursery and gift shop, and can start their own personal botanical gardens at home after leaving.
