The aptly named Mount Trashmore Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was once an abandoned landfill that was converted into a public park that now extends for 165 acres. The park was formed by layering clean soil with solid waste and compacting it. In the 30+ years that this Virginia park has been open, it has been one of the most popular in the area with more than a million visitors each year.Boasting hills that are over 60 feet tall, Mount Trashmore Park is well known as a place to relax, play, and meet with friends and family thanks to 15 picnic shelters, four volleyball courts, a basketball court, a skatepark, Water Wise demonstration garden, and playground areas. In fact, Mount Trashmore Park is home to Kids' Cove, a one-of-a-kind playground built by volunteers and designed by kids.
