The University of Texas at San Antonio offers academic opportunity at three campuses. 1604 Campus, Downtown Campus, and UTSA's Institute of Texas Cultures together serve as the educational home base for more than 28,000 students. The Texas Legislature founded the school in 1969 and it's accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Today, there are 131 undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered, making it the second largest school in the University of Texas System.The suburban setting of the public university offers a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational activities including a rock climbing wall, a swimming pool, and fitness centers. Students can also participate in intramural sports teams. Many hotels are convenient to the university, offering a range of accommodations from budget-friendly to luxury. The amenities run the gamut from spas and golf courses to free breakfast and smoke-free accommodations. Six Flags Fiesta Texas is also nearby for recreation.
