Welcome to Savannah
Savannah, the oldest city in the state of Georgia, attracts millions of visitors each year thanks to its gorgeous architecture and historic buildings. With cobblestone streets, an emerald tree canopy and stunning Antebellum structures, it's no secret why this town champions picturesque Southern appeal. Established in 1733, Savannah once served as the British colonial capital and later was a strategic port city in the American Revolution. Today, the "The Hostess City of the South" is an industrial center and important Atlantic seaport. In its semi-tropical location, visitors can expect warm, humid and hot weather throughout the year. Temperatures peak in the high 90s in the summertime and hover around the 50s in the winter months.
Explore the city by car, public transit or walking. The city has a pedestrian-friendly layout, making weaving through the streets on foot a great way to see the sights. The CAT offers 19 bus routes in Savannah and Chatham County while the DOT shuttle, fare-free service of Savannah Mobility Management System, transports passengers to many historic sites and local restaurants. You can also take the River Streetcar, a trolley tour or Savannah Belles Ferry, to discover the city.
