Welcome to San Antonio
San Antonio is the seventh-largest city in the U.S and second most populous in Texas. About 1.3 million residents call this city home. It's situated in the southwestern corner of the urban region called the Texas Triangle. Named after Saint Anthony of Padua, San Antonio is known for its long, deep-rooted history. It was one of the oldest European settlements in Texas and provided military support for the Alamo and beyond. Thus, it has earned the nickname "Military City, USA", with several military bases including Joint Base San Antonio, the largest base organization in the U.S. Department of Defense and composed of Fort Sam Houston Army Base, Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base.
Due to its southern location, San Antonio welcomes a warm climate year-round. During the summers, highs approach the 100s and during the winter, averages hover in the 50s. No matter the season, visitors can navigate the city using VIA Metropolitan Transit, which encompasses 102 bus lines and costs only 80 cents a ride. If you rent a car, be prepared for fast drivers, as Texas is one of the few states where the speed limit can reach 70 miles per hour.
