I went to visit my brother in Atlanta GA. I stayed at the Budgetel Atlanta North. I arrived at 2:30pm and check in was supposed to be at 3:00pm. I waited in the lobby for check in time to roll around. While waiting four people came in inquiring about rooms. They all seemed to be familiar with the clerk, knew his name and he seemed to know them. It made me think these are regulars and this was some sort of no tell motel. So my first impression was not too good. I had to wait beyond 3pm because apparently the staff was still cleaning rooms. All I was told by the clerk was that they didn't have a room for me yet. Not knowing what that meant and having paid in advance combined with a 10 hour drive really set me off. Bad 2nd impression. I finally got my room and the refrigerator and microwave that were in the Internet pictures don't exist in real life. Fortunately I brought a cooler with sodas to last my two day stay. So that became my refrigerator. I forgot my microwave popcorn so the missing microwave was a non issue for me. The TV in the room only gets analog channels. Fortunately I brought my computer so my youtubeTV subscription came in handy. I saw a roach crawling around the bathroom and in order for the toilet to flush you had to hold the handle the entire flushing cycle. This is something I fixed myself the second day so I didn't have to have this issue a second night. The smoke alarm was dangling in two pieces from the wall. The sprinkler had paper towels crammed into it for reasons unknown. The bed I had was hard as a rock. I found out the next day that the other bed was much more comfortable. I also woke up to the odor of pot smoke which was overwhelming when I stepped in the hallway. I knew they didn't serve breakfast but the Internet said they have a restaurant on site. I went downstairs to look for it and failed. I did stumble upon the pool area with a sign stating that it was out of service. It looked like there were no plans to fix it. I went to the front desk to inquire about the restaurant but was told they no longer have it. Overall I would say this is a hotel that has simply given up trying to provide an appealing option as a family hotel and is quickly becoming a place for illicit rendezvous and god knows what else.
