Harborside at Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina

The drive over the Cooper River Bridge was my first impression of what I was about to encounter staying at this hotel. The location is very convenient and easy to get to, as it was the first exit off the bridge and a straight drive down a palm tree lined street. As I approached the property, I saw the large battle ship, then the beautiful fountain that greets you. The free trolley to downtown Charleston was awaiting it's next departure. Parking was convenient and I didn't have to walk far to find myself in the lobby of the resort. The nautical theme and trendy furnishings grabbed my attention immediately. The staff at the front desk greeted me, along with bellman to assist me with my luggage. The staff was very friendly, polite and professional. The guest room was light and airy and overlooked the harbor. A small balcony had two adirondack rocking chairs which I frequented often taking in the breathtaking views of the harbor and cargo ships traveling in and out of port. The guest room did not seem like a guest room, it had a nice white bookshelf with cupboards and trinkets. The beds were soft and comfy with yellow tones throughout. The bathroom had tile surround, a whirlpool tub, and mirrors wrapped around half the wall. The closet contained two logo'd robes, a safe, wooden hangers, iron and ironing board. Flat screen television and dvd player, and small refrigerator were also in my room. Although the hotel offered room service, I did not take advantage of it. The grounds of the resort reminded me of a tropical island with a tiki bar, adirondack chairs, fire pits, bocci ball and more. The private pier was nice to walk down to get a clear look of the surrounding islands and the peace and tranquility of the area. Bicycle's were available, and a water taxi to downtown Charleston. The lounge at the hotel was spacious for gatherings and also had overstuffed chairs and sitting areas. I dined at the hotel's new restaurant "The Fish House" located next door and a short walk. The windows overlooked the battleship and was breathtaking. The food was very good and service was excellent. The hotel gift shop is located next to the restaurant. The resort offers interior and exterior function space. The new restaurant also has function space for groups. Exterior space has awnings covering the area with ceiling fans. Meetings rooms had nice woodwork, clean and spacious. Breakfast was served in a small area and seemed to fill up quickly. The area was a little dark, but the buffet offered plenty of options such as waffles, sausage, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, bagels and yogurt. We had the option to purchase the continental breakfast or the full buffet. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a resort outside of the downtown area.
