The Fascinating History of the Future of Flight Museum & Boeing Tour in Everett, WA
For more than 50 years, the Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour has been giving visitors a unique look into the history and future of flight. The Future of Flight Aviation Center's museum continues to educate and inspire aviation enthusiasts of all ages. The Future of Flight Aviation Center is the only place in the world where tourists can tour a commercial jet assembly facility and gain a firsthand look at how Boeing builds its aircraft. Visitors to the Center can explore interactive exhibits, watch a short film about the history of flight and the future of the aerospace industry, and then participate in a guided tour of the world's largest building, the Boeing Everett Factory. The history of Boeing began in Everett in 1943, and in 1966 the plan to build 747s at Paine Field was revealed. A US$525 million contract with Pan Am sealed the deal, and 780 acres were bought. The factory opened in May 1967, four months after the first workers had arrived. A Dreamlifter Operations Center, funded by $35 million in bonds from Snohomish County, was built on the western edge of Paine Field's runway. It was opened in October 2013 and covers 17 acres. The county owns the Center, and Boeing leases it, servicing the bonds. The Boeing 767 is a long-range, twin-engine jet airliner with a mid-to large-size and wide-body. The 767-300ER, the last passenger variant, can accommodate 218 passengers in a three-class setup, has a range of 5,990 nm, and has a speed of Mach 0.80. Production started in 1979. In Jan 2023, Boeing announced the opening of a 4th production line for the 737 MAX at the Everett Factory, replacing the 787 lines that had been discontinued.
