Local Attractions
Genoa is like an open door to the sea, but its inner soul looks like a labyrinth, tangled with unexpected beauties which come to surface slowly Palazzo Cicala is located in the very heart of one of the largest European historic city centres, which is crossed by “carruggi” (local name for small and narrow streets) over a surface of 113 ha. The palazzo hall overlooks the Piazza San Lorenzo, which dates back to 1500, and through its large windows you have a spectacular view over the San Lorenzo Cathedral, which was built between the year 1100 and the end of the 14th century. You can get a deeper knowledge of Genoese Church and Christianity history in the nearby Via Tommaso Reggio, where the Museo Diocesano is located. Strolling down Via San Lorenzo you reach the “Porto Antico”, getting across Palazzo San Giorgio and small spice-scented shops in Sottoripa. The Porto Antico area, as we know it today, was planned by the famous Genoese architect Renzo Piano for the 500th anniversary of Columbus Day. The main att
Property Description
The Palazzo Cicala stands in front of the Cathedral facing the fifteenth Century San Lorenzo Square, in the very middle of the Ancient City Centre.
It is just within a step from the Palazzo Ducale, and the old harbour of Genoa, where you can visit the Aquarium or embark on a ferry for an excursion to Camogli, Portofino or the Cinque Terre.
The Palazzo Cicala occupies a strategic position for the sightseeing but also for the nightlife, close to the best theatres and cinemas but also to the trendiest pubs and nightclubs.
LOCATION
We are on the first floor of the just restored Palazzo Cicala, a fine example of the seventeenth century architecture. This traditional background is enriched by modern design furnishing, characterized by minimal linear shapes, vivid colours and sober elegance.
The bedrooms, all en suite, have high vaulted ceilings and range between 30 and 40 square metres. Richly adorned with stucco decorations, they offer the charme of ancient times, but also provide every modern comfort: telephone, satellite television, personal computer and internet connection.
Inside the former cellars of the Palazzo Cicala you can find the renewed Restaurant “ Le Cantine Squarciafico”, ready to offer the best Genoese and Italian cuisine
The palazzo was built when the Cicalas were a rich and powerful family who gave poets, leaders and bishops to the Republic; later, it became the residence of Countess Elena Ferro and was turned, in the 19th century, into the main office of the “Italia Assicurazioni” insurance company.
In June 1999, it was bought by a group of private investors that decided to bring it back to its original purpose.
