The Inside Scoop by our Local Expert
There are several massive hotels within walking distance of the Moscone Center designed to host convention goers and other sizable groups, such as the nearly-2,000-room Hilton San Francisco. Moscone is also a quick half-mile walk from Union Square, which means that all of the many hotels surrounding the Square are pretty viable options for Moscone attendees as well. However, during conventions, prices for these hotels can skyrocket - everyone wants to be within walking distance of the convention. So, the trick is to use San Francisco's quick and convenient public transportation to your advantage. There is a BART (San Francisco's rail/subway system) station only a block away from the Center. The BART lines cuts directly across the city in one long diagonal, which opens up a world of hotel options for Moscone attendees. Simply aim to stay somewhere within easy access of the BART's big diagonal line, and access to the Center will be easy. Another option is to stay somewhere north of the Center, and utilize the two cable car lines to travel south, since both the Powell-Mason line and Powell-Hyde line end at virtually the same place as the BART station. Again, simply search for hotels within an easy walk of one of the two lines. This is the best way to beat the price heat during conventions!
