Founded in the spring of 1857 by Omaha businessmen pursuing suitable town sites, West Point holds a significant place in Nebraska's history. The city was initially named New Philadelphia but soon adopted its current name, West Point, as it marked the westernmost outpost along the Elkhorn Valley. West Point's historical journey took a dramatic turn in the spring of 1859, during what is known as the Pawnee War. Over 4,000 Pawnee natives, discontented with the presence of white settlers in the valley, set fire to several homesteads and harmed livestock. This conflict, however, concluded near Battle Creek without any significant hostilities. West Point's past is not just a tale of trials and tribulations but also one of resilience and growth. Today, the city is a beacon of community spirit and Midwestern warmth. Aside from its historical allure, it has a plethora of sights and attractions. From its verdant landscapes to the friendly neighborhood cafes, there's always something to explore and experience.
