The Tybee Island center point is about the area of Miriam's By the Sea and the area of Tybee Island Marine Science.
March through August marks the busy season for Tybee Island. High temperatures start in the low 70s Fahrenheit in March and eventually end up in the low 90s by August. Plenty of visitors start flocking to the area to enjoy the beaches, festivals, and other outdoor activities. Since this is a popular time to visit, it's also an expensive one. This is the time of year when hotels will raise their prices to take advantage of the crowds.
By September, the beaches start emptying out as people head back to work and school. If you're looking for lower hotel prices and smaller crowds, consider visiting between mid-September and mid-November. You'll find pleasant temperatures and still plenty of activities and events to enjoy.
However, if you're looking for the best deals possible, you'll want to plan your trip for January or February. Tybee Island sees a big drop in temperatures and tourism during these two months. Average highs struggle to get into the lower 60s and lows can dip into the 30s, so you'll definitely want to pack warm clothes. Also keep in mind that some attractions on Tybee Island will close for the season. That said, the island boasts fresh seafood, marine science tours, and art events all year round. There's even a Mardi Gras event at the end of January. It may be worth braving the mild cold for these deals.

While most people come to Tybee Island to relax on the unspoiled stretch of beach, there are plenty of other activities worth checking out. The 145-foot tall lighthouse at Tybee Island Light Station and Museum is the oldest and tallest in Georgia. Climb to the top of lighthouse to take in stunning views of the surrounding area. You can then take a tour of the three light keeper's cottages, summer kitchen, and 1899 military battery that houses the Tybee Island Museum to learn more about the history of the area and what life was like caring for the lighthouse.
To learn more about the plants and animals that call the waters around Tybee Island home, plan a visit to the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. Head to the Coastal Georgia Gallery to see between 250 and 300 creatures. Since this is a catch-exhibit-release gallery, you'll always see a variety of different animals each time you return. Stick your fingers in the touch tank of live marine invertebrates and check out a few programs delivered by the marine science educators. You can also head out on one of the educator-guided Walks, Talks, and Treks to get a hands-on lesson about the habitats of the area.
If you're interested in discovering more history about the area, head to Fort Pulaski National Monument. This is where the Union Army successfully tested rifled cannon in combat during the American Civil War. This superior technology caused the Confederate garrison inside the fort to surrender and made brick fortifications obsolete after that point. Today you can still see the massive damage done to the brick walls from the rifled cannon. The fort also offers guided tours so you can learn more stories about its history throughout the years.
Whether you're coming to Tybee Island to enjoy the beach or learn some history, you'll find the ideal hotel for your stay with all the amenities you need for a pleasant trip.
Below are reviews of the city of Tybee Island, GA from an actual visitor's perspective.
I appreciate the beautiful clean beaches, the fun stores and shops, and the walkability of the island. I am also very grateful for such a heavy police presence. I always felt safe. Also the crab balls that stingrays restaurant are amazing.
The ocean!
The city, during our visit, was quiet, not overcrowded and has plenty to see and enjoy!
Love Tybee!
I like the quaintness of the area we stayed in. There are no chain restaurants at all in the area which is nice to support locals. The Rock House Bar & Grill in particular had some very nice staff. I did a takeout order the first night and the man who took my order double checked everything before I left to make sure it was just right. Most places seem to always get in a rush when they are busy and wouldn't take the time. I very much appreciated that.
North Beach Grill is always fun and good!
The people, food, things to do and the BEACH!
Enjoyed the shopping and restaurant area and the pier was pretty neat too. Everyone was very friendly.
Great food and fun. Love Tybee Island!!
We loved the taxi rides for $5.00 a person. Got us around to everywhere we wanted to go.
Clean beach.
It is a quaint little town. Loved the concert on the pier. We could walk everywhere we wanted to go!
There was a Nor'easter so we were unable to tour. Next time we will see more.
