The Tehachapi center point is around the area of Tehachapi Museum and the area of Tehachapi Hospital Rural Health.
Its elevation gives Tehachapi more variable, comfortable temperatures than many Californian locations. Its summers are warm without being oppressively hot. Average midyear daily temperatures usually sit in the 80s. While the mercury occasionally creeps over 100 during heat waves, these are rare. The desert climate means the heat is much drier than along California's coastline.
Rain and snow are common during the spring. Tehachapi gets most of its rain from December to March. Light showers are more common than thunderstorms though, so it's unlikely to disturb your travel plans too much. March also brings most of Tehachapi's snow, although light falls occur between November and April.
Fall is arguably the best time for visiting Tehachapi. It rarely rains or snows during this season, and typical daily highs in the 60s and 70s are perfectly pleasant. Accommodation prices also fall once the summer travelers return home.
Selected hotels discount their regular room rates for certain travelers. Remember to present your identification at the check-in desk to secure your savings.

Brite Valley Aquatic Recreation Area is a popular campground, but you needn't stay there to enjoy the 90-acre park's great facilities. Enjoy an outdoor lunch at the picnic pavilion; then work off the meal on the hiking trails. Brite Lake is also a popular fishing spot, home to several trout species. Note though that you'll need a California Department of Fish and Wildlife Fishing License if you're aged 16 or older. Swimming and wading aren't permitted, as the lake provides water for the Greater Tehachapi Area.
Tehachapi Mountain Park is another beautiful campground with facilities for the entire community. Explore the trails on foot or rent a horse from the small on-site corral. The park spans 490 acres, so make sure you allow plenty of time if you want to see it all. While the park intends to open all year round, road closures are common during heavy snow. If you can access the park during winter, tire chains are recommended.
Recent renovations have made Meadowbrook Park even more exciting. There are two playgrounds for the kids and exercise equipment for adults. Open grassy areas provide space for young and old to burn off excess energy. The Bike Pump Track, with thrilling bumps and berms, is great fun. The on-site dog park, with separate areas for large and small dogs, is perfect for travelers staying in local pet-friendly motels. Put them through their paces on the agility equipment, or enjoy a simple game of fetch in the open grassy spaces.
With excellent outdoor facilities and a downtown area on the up, Tehachapi makes an ideal travel destination. Discover the appeal of this thriving mountain city on your next Californian getaway.

Small town, nice people.
The people of Tehachapi were lovely--very kind and helpful. We enjoyed the museums and wineries. The art show was terrific!
A lot of people were riding bikes, so it seemed family friendly. The weather was cooler than where we are from. Seemed quiet and had pretty views of the mountains.
