There is truly no wrong time of year to visit Meredith. In the summer, the little town's population grows with summer residents and visitors, and the streets and stores are always bustling with activity. This is also the time of year when you can spend time out on the lake boating and swimming. The hotels book up fast in the summer months, and it is also the hardest time to get a good rate. Make sure to book in advance if you want a summer vacation in this area.
In the fall, when the air is crisp and the leaves turn, there are beautiful views and scenic drives in the area. This is New England, and the temperature can change dramatically throughout the day in the autumn, so it's a good idea to pack both warm and cold weather clothes for a visit. While fall isn't as busy as summer in Meredith, it is still a popular time of year for leaf peepers. You'll want to plan ahead, but you can find deals and foliage packages at some hotels.
When winter hits, the skiers and snowmobilers come to Meredith. Once the lake freezes over, it's like a whole town out on the ice with the bob houses and ice fishing fans out there looking for their next catch. The hotel rates drop again after the holidays, but you need to watch out for a few big weekend events when the rates go back up. The ice fishing derby in February and the Pond Hockey Classic, also in February, bring large crowds.
Skiers can head to nearby Gunstock Mountain for a medium-size mountain experience, or head north to one of the larger mountains such as Loon Mountain or Cannon Mountain for big mountain skiing.
The Manor on Golden Pond is a few miles north of Meredith in Holderness and offers AARP discounts and AAA discounts. Stay right down the road from Gunstock Mountain at Fireside Inn & Suites. This hotel is just seven miles from Meredith and offers AAA and business traveler discounts. There is a pool, spa, and complimentary breakfast for guests. The central location of this hotel makes it easy to go skiing in the winter, take in a concert at Meadowbrook in the summer, and visit Weirs Beach.

Meredith is the heart of the Lakes Region. It sits among several lakes, including Lake Winnipesaukee, Lake Winnisquam, and Lake Waukewan, and it's just a short drive to several others. In the summer, you can go boating, try kayaking along the shores, or even go stand-up paddleboarding. In the fall, use Meredith as your home base and take a drive up to the White Mountains to see the fall foliage. You can drive up to the Kancamagus Highway, stop for some hiking, or visit the Flume.
In the winter, there is no better place to stay than right in Meredith. Hop on a snowmobile and race across the lake, or strap on cross country skis and spend the day out in the fresh, crisp New England air.
During your stay in Meredith and the Lakes Region, make sure to take a cruise to Lake Winnipesaukee on one of the Mount Washington Cruises. There are three vessels to choose from, including the US Mail Boat, Sophie C, and the large 230-foot M/S Mount Washington. In nearby Holderness, the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center offers 200 acres of live native wildlife, or you can head north to the New Hampshire Boat Museum.
Meredith offers a wide variety of dining options ranging from the upscale Lakehouse at Church Landing to the casual Frog Rock Tavern.
