The best time to visit the Philadelphia area — including Media — depends on your preferences and the purpose of your visit. If you want to find the absolute best rates, book a stay during the slow winter season. Fall can also be an affordable time to visit. Temperatures will still be chilly during this season, but you can expect warmer weather than you'd find during winter.
Summer is the most popular time to visit the area. With kids on summer break, families flock to Philadelphia to explore historic sites like Independence Hall, as well as attractions like the Philadelphia Zoo. During the summer, average temperatures range from the low 70s to mid-80s. It's the most comfortable time to visit, but also the most expensive, as large crowds of tourists drive hotel prices higher.
Spring offers the ideal balance between affordability and comfort. Temperatures warm up from a 30 to 50-degree range in March to anywhere from the mid-50s to the low 70s in May. Hotel rates are more reasonable, and though you may still run into crowds at the area's biggest attractions, they are less packed than during summer.
To maximize your travel budget, you may be looking for hotels near Media that offer special rates. If so, America's Best Value Inn Media/Philadelphia is one of the best choices. Senior citizens, AAA/CAA members, military personnel, and government employees all qualify for discounted rates at this hotel. Book your deal online, then be sure to have the appropriate ID ready when you check into the hotel. Even if you don't fall into any of those categories, you can save at America's Best Value Inn with special online rates and sales, all of which include a generous cancellation policy.
For a more upscale experience, check out the Hilton Garden Inn Newtown Square. Located about 5 miles away from Media in Newtown Square, this three-star hotel offers a discount for military members and government employees. You can also take advantage of special online rates and limited-time sales. Keep in mind, though, that the former tend to be non-refundable deals, while the latter come with a standard cancellation period. The Hilton Garden Inn is a fairly popular option for those visiting the area, so you may need to book early to get the best deals.
If you'll be flying into Philadelphia when you visit Media, the Days Inn Springfield Philadelphia International Airport can provide the right balance of cost, convenience, and comfort. Not only will you be close to the airport when you stay at this Days Inn, but you'll also have access to an on-site restaurant and bar as well as laundry and fitness facilities. The hotel provides complimentary transportation to and from the airport, and both breakfast and long-term parking are available for a surcharge.
The Inn at Swarthmore also has reasonable rates and mid-range amenities. This inn is only a nine-minute drive from Media and includes 40 guestrooms and suites. Grab breakfast at the hotel's signature restaurant, The Broad Table Tavern, or get in a workout at the 24-hour fitness facilities. Private dining and meeting spaces are also available. Check-in is at 4 p.m., and check-out is at 12 p.m., so you won't feel rushed on the last day of your stay.
The Inn at Swarthmore is also an excellent choice for pet owners. Pets are welcome, although the hotel requests that you bring no more than two dogs weighing less than 50 pounds each, per room. A non-refundable $50 pet fee will be assessed per stay.
Although it's often eclipsed by the City of Brotherly Love, Media has several unique events and attractions that visitors will love. One example is Dining Under the Stars, a seasonal event inspired by cities like Paris, Rome, and Venice. Each Wednesday evening from May through September, the city closes a portion of State Street so that local restaurants can offer al fresco dining. This is an excellent opportunity to stroll through downtown Media, do some shopping, and enjoy an unforgettable dining experience.
If you want to spend more time outside in nature, check out Ridley Creek State Park, which includes 2,606 acres of meadows and woodlands as well as the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation. Learn about life in Pennsylvania before the Revolutionary War, or go horseback riding, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, sledding, fishing, hunting, camping, wildlife watching, or picnicking. You can also take a stroll through Tyler Arboretum, pick up some fresh local produce from Indian Orchards or Linvilla Orchards, take in a play or musical performance at the old Hedgerow Theatre, or catch a movie at the Media Theater.
