If you're looking to tour Lock Haven, be sure check out these historic sites: Memorial Park Site, the Heisey House Museum, and Water Street District. You can also explore Lock Haven's surrounding cities and Penn State University, located just forty miles to the southwest of town.
The Memorial Park Site is located near where the Bald Eagle Creek and West Branch Susquehanna River meet. This archeological site housed cultural deposits from every prehistoric period, making it an excellent location to learn about the land's history before the English colonies were established.
The Heisey House was built around 1831, which was before the city even became a town. This fact makes the Heisey House quite the historic building, and its vast history only adds to the fact as it was built first as a farmhouse, then used as a tavern, and then used as a place for the owner to practice medicine. The Water Street District includes Lock Haven's central business district in addition to many Victorian-style homes and churches that were constructed in the nineteen century. These buildings, including the Heisey House, are ones you won't want to miss exploring when you visit Lock Haven.
