The Healdsburg center is about the area of Downtown Healdsburg and 7 miles north of Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport.
Healdsburg's climate is conducive to year-round visits, though winters can be rainy and chilly when highs typically range in the low to mid-50s. Summers are hot and dry. If you are looking to see and experience a famous California “super bloom,” the best time to visit would be from March through April. All of that winter rain contributes to a sudden bloom of wildflowers, including California buttercups.
Visit in May if you want to enjoy some tasty wine and some exceptional live entertainment. Each year the town holds the annual Healdsburg Jazz Festival. The Healdsburg Art Festival follows in June, and the Healdsburg Street Painting Festival is slated for late September. The Wine and Food Festival takes place in early November, with many wineries participating.
Best Western is an excellent value hotel that also offers significant discounts to AAA members and seniors. The grounds are landscaped in a Spanish style, inviting guests to relax at two outdoor pools and three spa tubs. Guests enjoy a complimentary reception on select days, and a free hot and cold buffet served daily, among many other included amenities like free wireless internet access and free toiletries.
Hotel Trio is an ideal property for small conferences, meetings, and special events. This hotel's nightly rates are approachable, and guest suites are particularly conducive to business travelers and families, with desks, phones, laptop-compatible safes, 24-hour business center, conference space, and complimentary wireless internet access.
Satellite programming also offers entertainment, as does the outdoor pool and 24-hour fitness center. If guests wish to leave the hotel, a complimentary shuttle will get guests to nearby attractions within a 1-mile radius. You don't need to leave to eat, though, because the hotel boasts its own coffee shop and cafe and a bar and lounge. Free breakfast is also served daily.
Sonoma County's wineries offer some surprising and fun experiences that put a new spin on wine tastings, like Stonestreet Estate Vineyards, which offers private mountain excursion tours. On a unique 4x4 guided tour, you'll ascend the mountain and learn all about how elevation affects grapes. At the summit, you can enjoy lunch with a view paired with a sampling of estate wines.
Visit Hawley Wine in Dry Creek Valley for a guided tour of the winery and grounds, or to take a blending class to learn the art of winemaking. Eco-conscious wine lovers will learn all about sustainable winemaking at Quivira Winery. You can take a self-guided tour using a vineyard map and then taste the fruits of the vine with a sip of Sauvignon Blanc in the tasting room.
Preston Farm and Winery has a unique distinction among area wineries. It is also an organic farm with its own produce store. You can purchase a farm-fresh picnic, complete with baked fresh sourdough bread, to be enjoyed on the grounds along with a bottle of wine.
At Moshin Vineyards, you can marvel at the unique four-tier gravity flow winemaking system that helps this winery create award-winning pinot noir season after season. Visit in summer to sip under the stars while you watch an outdoor movie screening.
Jordan Vineyards and Winery is the place to enjoy a seated wine pairing and library tour in a Chateau. You can also sign up for a tasting tour of the Jordan Estate grounds.
At Michel-Schlumberger in Dry Creek, foodies will delight in wine pairings with chef-made fare, especially the decadent five-course pairing. After such a hearty tasting experience, you will be glad to hop on a golf course for a tour of the grounds, rather than going on foot.
If you don't mind going a bit off the beaten path for some exceptional chardonnay, visit Bacigalupi Vineyards. This winery famously won the 1976 Judgement of Paris that literally brought California winemaking to the world's attention. Other wineries you won't want to miss include Seghesio Family Vineyards, known for its zinfandels, as well as Williamson Wines, Geyser Peak Winery, Pezzi King Wines, Sapphire Hill Winery, and Ramey Wine Cellars, DaVero Farms and Winery, and Simi Winery. This list is by no means exhaustive. Healdsburg's Sonoma County locale means that it's located in the epicenter of California winemaking.
