Nanaimo's climate features mild winters with a significant amount of rain. Although the summers are cool and dry, the weather here makes Nanaimo an ideal place to visit any time of the year.
Since many people travel in the summer, hotel rates increase from the end of May through August. This increase can make traveling to Nanaimo in the summer a little more difficult if you're on a budget. However, outdoor activities from snorkeling to hiking make summer a great time for many people to visit. Expect high temperatures in the summer to be between 70 and 75 degrees.
During the fall, visitation drops off slightly. The autumn months make a great time to visit if you want to avoid crowds. However, the later into fall you get, the colder the weather becomes. While September has an average high of 70 degrees, temperatures drop to 58 degrees in October.
Winters get cold in Nanaimo, although not as cold as other areas of the country. The coldest month of the year is December, with an average low of 32 degrees. If you are planning indoor activities and want to travel when prices are the most affordable, consider visiting during the winter.
Spring offers attractive views as this part of Canada wakes from its slumber. While the temperatures are still cold, you'll find sunny days and great weather for hiking. In addition, since the weather can still be cold at this time of year, you'll find fewer travelers, which makes this season another affordable travel option.
