Aurora is located just east of Denver and is the third-largest city in Colorado, which means that it provides an ideal blend of big-city amenities and entertainment with the welcoming feel of a neighborly suburb. The location outside the buzzing metropolis of Denver means that it has a wealth of beautiful natural surroundings to explore. The prices are more affordable outside Denver, as well, though those who want to take a side trip to explore downtown Denver can get there in just minutes.
When to Visit Aurora, CO
If you're searching for a deal above all else, then the best time to visit Aurora is in the early spring and fall. These shoulder seasons come with slightly lower hotel rates, so you'll be able to score a great deal. But the lower rates don't mean that you'll be unable to find fun activities in Aurora. In fact, many people love the moderate temperatures that usually hover in the mid-60s or 70s that come at these times of the year. And if you're planning to stop in Denver during your visit, you'll find fewer tourists during these times.
Summer and winter have slightly higher hotel rates due to the increase in activities for visitors. There are a number of popular festivals in the area during the summer that attract visitors from out of town. The abundance of sunshine and warm 80-degree days don't hurt, either.
Meanwhile, the winter comes with plenty of snowfall to keep the skiers and snowboarders happy. Aurora is just a short drive away from a number of top ski slopes, which is why people travel from all over the country and even the world to visit this area in the winter. Temperatures during this time of year usually stay in the 20s and 30s, so it's not quite as cold as some other skiing destinations.
