The area was settled as part of the Old Three Hundred land grant in the 1820s. It may never have come about if Richmond, Texas, did not decline the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railway's proposition to pass through the town. On its refusal, the railway instead built 3 miles west. That area is now called Rosenberg. The city remembered the railroad's importance to its existence, naming itself Rosenberg after Henry Rosenberg, a German immigrant who served as the railway's original president. The city was officially incorporated in 1902. Robert H. McCormick, who spearheaded the incorporation efforts, became Rosenberg's first mayor.
Today, Rosenberg is a welcoming community with close to 35,500 residents. As the Southwest Freeway runs along the city's south side, connecting Rosenberg with Houston and Victoria, the city is a popular stop for many travelers visiting Texas. However, Rosenberg deserves to be much more than a drive-through destination. Linger a little longer, and you'll discover what makes Rosenberg great.
