Conveniently close to three major highways, travelers can easily reach Vestal from locations such as Scranton, Pennsylvania; Syracuse, New York; and New York City. Cities like Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Boston, Massachusetts; and Washington, D.C., are only six hours from Vestal.
Vestal was settled in 1785 by Samuel and Daniel Seymour. The community experienced its greatest growth between 1845 and 1850 when the population increased from 1,017 to 2,054 people. Lumbering was the primary form of industry at the time, but Vestal also supported two grist mills, a fulling mill, a cotton mill, a distillery, an oilcloth factory, and two tanneries. Prior to adopting the name Vestal, the town was called Crane's Ferry, named after businessman Jonathan Crane: the operator of a store and tavern. Upon the opening of a new hotel in 1844, the community adopted the name Vestal Mills to recognize the lumber and mill industries that once thrived there.
Today, Vestal prides itself on being a "full-service town" with police and fire departments, a school system, a public library, and a museum. With more than 20 community parks located throughout the town, you'll find plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy a variety of recreational activities. Whether you're visiting Vestal for business or pleasure, you won't lack for places to stay in the area.

I was born in Binghamton in 1949. I moved to another state when I was 10. I have returned to Binghamton often enough over the years for weddings and funerals. For what seems like the lat two decades road construction was an obstacle to staying in vestal. I was very happy to see the construction is almost done.
