The Shreveport center point is around the area of Shreveport City Hall and the area of Robinson Film Center.

Shreveport is the third largest city in Louisiana, located along the Red River in the northwest part of the state. When it was established, settlers were looking to launch a town where the Texas Trail and the Red River met. Captain Henry Miller Shreve led the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in an effort to clear the Red River by removing the natural logjam, allowing for passage for shipping and transportation. In Captain Shreve's honor, the village and company were named for him. In 1839, it was incorporated as Shreveport. More from this guide...

When should you visit Shreveport, Louisiana?

Shreveport has a humid subtropical climate, marked by abundant rainfall and severe thunderstorms through the year. Shreveport receives an average of 51 inches of precipitation per year, with the majority coming in the spring and summer months. Ice and sleet storms occur sporadically during the generally mild winters, but it does get very hot and humid during the summer. If you can brave the heat and humidity, however, visit Shreveport in the summer months to score discounts on hotel rooms.

Several annual events draw visitors from around the country, increasing demand and causing hotel prices to spike. Mudbug Madness is a festival that takes place in the late spring, celebrating all things mudbugs (or crawfish). In the fall, the Red River Revel is an outdoor festival that honors and recognizes visual and performing arts throughout the week. It includes live music and entertainment, art vendors, and plenty of food. The Let the Good Times Roll Festival celebrates music and includes a 5K run/health walk that causes some streets to close for several hours.

Shreveport also hosts the annual Louisiana State Fair, starting at the end of October and running through mid-November. With rides, entertainment, events, activities, games, and food, this event draws a big crowd every year. Shreveport's ties to the film industry also relate to the Louisiana Film Prize, a weekend festival in early October where 21 short films made in the state will compete for a $50,000 cash prize. Viewers watch the films and vote on the best one to award a winner. All of these events can result in higher than average hotel prices, so if your visit dates are flexible, try to steer clear of these times of the year.

What hotels give best discounts in Shreveport, Louisiana?

If you're traveling to Shreveport with a group, several hotels in the area offer discounted rates for groups of five or more booking rooms together. These include Holiday Inn Shreveport Downtown, Sam's Town, Quality Inn Bossier City, and Residence Inn Shreveport.

AAA members can also save when staying at Courtyard by Marriott Shreveport Bossier/Louisiana Boardwalk, Residence Inn by Marriott Shreveport Bossier City/Downtown, Quality Inn, and Hampton Inn Bossier City. Military and government discounts are available at Horseshoe Bossier City.

What are the best value hotel options in Shreveport, Louisiana?

The outdoor heated pool and spa offer relaxation, especially with the outdoor bar that serves up tasty cocktails. On-site parking is free for guests and a free shuttle offers service to the airport 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you're looking for a property that makes you feel right at home, check out the Residence Inn Shreveport Bossier City/Downtown. Each room is set up like an apartment with a kitchen, including a refrigerator and stovetop, along with a separate living area and workspace. Free full breakfast, including eggs, meat, bread, waffles, juice, and coffee, is available every morning. The property has an outdoor pool and hosts regular evening socials with beer, wine, and snacks. Pets are welcome and grocery delivery service is available.

If you're coming with kids, check out the Sci-Port Discovery Center, a hands-on museum featuring science-focused exhibits and educational opportunities.

During a visit to Shreveport, visitors can enjoy a unique blend of beautiful natural surroundings and bustling city life with casinos, bars, and lounges operating all night. Find a great deal on a hotel room and take advantage of all this city has to offer.

'Equality amongst fellow men is the way out of this. Ignore it, and dark ages will soon be upon us.

Louis Pendleton, a popular civil rights activist who spent many years of his life working towards segregation and equality among various races in America, is quoted in the line presented above. The reason to remember Mr Pendleton here is to commemorate a man who best represents Shreveport, Louisiana “ a city we will be talking about in this article.

Shreveport has a very curious history of establishment. Founded about two centuries ago, Shreveport happened to be one of the very first towns in the South to be established purely through commercial interests. Henry Miller Shreve “ the man who is often credited for making the biggest rivers in America navigable for travel, exploration and trade “ and his company named ˜Shreve Town Co.' are usually considered founders of Shreveport.

Shreveport, situated along the Red River in a fertile stretch of mini-swampland, has a very unique location. This very location, at an important juncture between the Red River and the age-old Texas Pony Trail, makes Shreveport a strategically convenient business center “ one of the few reasons for the development of the town into a large city.

Shreveport of today, however, is little about business and more about enjoyment. Known widely as the best city to live in Louisiana after New Orleans, Shreveport forms a sister-metro area with neighboring Bossier City. Separated by just the river, this metro area is usually considered a single entity for surveying and indices.

There's a lot to see and do around Shreveport, especially if you are a sports fan. There's no time to fritter away, though! So, make your moves and put Shreveport on your shortlist of next holiday destinations!

Cheap Hotels in Shreveport

Louisiana is often considered to be a very budget friendly state. Simple folk with hearts as wide as the Red River that surrounds them characterize the city and its culture.

Much of it reflects in the way the hospitality industry of the city works, too. While it's not a big hassle to find cheap hotels here in Shreveport, it must be remembered that for lower prices than you can imagine, you will be able to book an occasion luxury hotel, too! So, just be alert and scan the horizon thoroughly before you make a choice.

For easy check-ins, convenient stays and a good deal of warm hospitality, Days Inns across America are quite famous. They bring a certain sense of security among travelers, especially because of the strong reputation the chain carries among regulars. Therefore, it could be a smart choice to pick the Days Inn at Shreveport Airport as your hotel while you are in Shreveport.

Motel 6 is another good option, especially if you don't mind staying just a touch out of sync with the city's downtown area. It is just a little bit more expensive than Days Inn, but its choice of spacious rooms makes it a leading choice among budget hotels in Shreveport.

Luxury Hotels and Resorts in Shreveport

There are a handful of luxury Shreveport hotels that tourists can book if the whim to live in royal style hits them. It's quite okay to do that as well, because such lavish resorts are relatively cheaper here than in most cities around the country.

Many names that tourists can easily identify with the luxury category can be found adorning the hospitality scenes at Shreveport. It's a much better idea, as far as new tourists are concerned, to go with established chains of resorts, instead of trying out new ones. You can always find yourself in a better position to take on new players if you have a good deal of travelling and touring experience under your belt.

And talking about established name, none can occupy the top spot among luxury hotels in Shreveport than the famed Hilton Shreveport. It is a cosy property filled with pleasures around every corner. Unlike many Hilton properties around America, Hilton Shreveport takes pride in being intimate in hospitality, marking a shift from the popular opinion that Hilton Resorts are usually cold in terms of reception.

If you are more taken up by the idea of suites than rooms, the Remington Suites Hotel and Spa can help you find the perfect one. It is one of the best luxury options in Shreveport, and one you should definitely not pass by without trying out!

Alternative Lodging Options in Shreveport

Shreveport is a medium sized city, with over 150,000 residents living in it. Because of this modest size, it's sometimes difficult to find too many lodging options over and top of traditional hotel and inn establishments.

There are a few studio apartments to be found in the downtown area, but many of them require you to fill up loads of paperwork, which can be quite frustrating.

Country Inn & Suites Shreveport and Hampton Business Suites Shreveport both provide relatively cheap service apartments to business travelers. These are quite handily affordable if you have company tagging along and you can split the fare amongst yourselves.

So, that's pretty much all you need to know about Shreveport hotels!

Sightseeing Tips for Tourists Visiting Shreveport

Shreveport, quite unfortunately, has a crime rate that hovers much higher above the average rate of crime in the rest of the country. While the situation is not as bad as this may suggest, it's always the best idea to know the ground reality.

Overly cheap hotels that appear shady should generally be avoided. Also, do refrain from carrying a lot of cash/jewelry on you.

Shreveport Weather

There's not much that can be said about Shreveport weather because it's pretty hot and humid out here throughout the year. The proximity of river and hot clime mean that you will have a hard time finding a cool day in this part of the world.

Tourists who aren't used to heat are advised to keep themselves hydrated regularly while sightseeing around the city, by drinking lots of water, or energy drinks.
