It's often said that when you don't like the weather in Texarkana to wait 10 minutes. In just that short amount of time, the weather can change rapidly, so prepare yourself for a range of temperatures and precipitation.
Summer is the most popular time to visit Texarkana, as many festivals take place, and tourists from around Texas and the South flock to the city. Temperatures can easily reach triple digits during this time, so remember to pack the sunscreen and stay hydrated. Hotels aren't always easy to come by during the summer, so book well ahead of time.
If you don't mind a little cold, visit Texarkana during the winter. Temperatures typically range from the low 30s to the mid-50s, so it isn't unbearable, but definitely chilly. Pack winter clothes and dress in layers, as temperatures can fluctuate. Demand for hotels is low during winter, so you might be able to score a great last-minute deal if you decide to head here on a whim.
During the spring, the foliage starts to bloom, providing a beautiful backdrop to this delightful little town. Temperatures are mild and usually range from 50 to 70 degrees. Precipitation is a concern during spring, but it's comparable to most other places in east Texas. Hotels are sometimes in demand, but it's not necessary to seek out hotel rooms more than a few weeks in advance.
Fall is a wonderful time of year in Texarkana, as the foliage changes colors and the summer heat gives way to some of the most comfortable temperatures in the state. There are several festivals in fall, giving you plenty to do when you visit. November is the rainiest month of the year, so make sure to pack a poncho or waterproof jacket if you're exploring the city on foot. Hotel rooms are usually easy to find during the fall, but you might get a great deal on a room if you plan accordingly.

The Econo Lodge offers senior discounts for guests with a valid ID, but the facilities are anything but lacking. When you stay here, you're within a short jaunt from attractions such as the Perot Theatre, Texas A&M University at Texarkana, Wright Patman Lake, and the Red River Army Depot. Each guest room comes equipped with a refrigerator, a flat-screen LCD television with cable programming, complimentary wireless internet, free local calls, a microwave, and a comfortable desk if you need to get work done. Other amenities include a complimentary continental breakfast, laundry facilities, and a small business center.
If you're seeking an excellent lodging option without the steep price, check out the Fairfield Inn & Suites near downtown Texarkana. It's within a short drive to many top destinations including Central Mall, Texarkana College, and Spring Lake Park. Each room offers appointments such as a refrigerator, a flat-screen television with cable, a desk, delivered complimentary newspapers, a desk, and a phone with free local calls. Guests also have access to concierge services, an indoor pool, on-site restaurant, snack bar/deli, and fitness center for staying in shape.
Another quality midrange hotel is the Hilton Garden Inn. It's near downtown, the airport, and Texarkana College. When you don't want to search for a place to eat, you can simply dine in at the Hilton Garden Inn. Just put on some clothes and grab a bite or drink in the restaurant or bar. Remember to wait at least half an hour after eating before you take a dip in the pool or head to the spa tub to relax. Each room comes with a flat-screen television, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a coffee maker.
For a town of just 37,000, Texarkana has a surprising number of attractions and popular destinations. If you're traveling with children, you have to stop by the Discovery Place Children's Museum. This interactive, hands-on museum is one of the best children's destinations in the state, allowing your kids to learn about local history, science, geography, health, and more. Highlights include replicas of a 1900s general store, a dress-up theater, and a one-of-a-kind 12-foot sound wall. When you want to combine entertainment and learning, there's no better choice.
For an experience you can only find in Texarkana, take a trip to the Ace of Clubs House. Erected in 1885, this historic house takes the shape of a club you would find in a deck of cards. According to local legend, the owner built the house after he won $10,000 in a poker game. Today, the house is a museum that's one of the city's most popular attractions. During the summer, stop by for the Moonlight & Movies series, or head here during Christmas for one of the most beautiful lights displays and decorations in the area.
No matter what you love to do or see, Texarkana has the accommodations to fit your needs. Book a luxury hotel for the ultimate experience in comfort or a low-cost option to free up money for other activities. There's always a hotel that's the perfect fit.
