The Fredericksburg center point is approximately the area of Downtown Fredericksburg and the area of Bauer Toy Muesum.
Due to the Texas Hill Country's hot, humid summers, the best time to visit Fredericksburg is in the spring from March to May, or in the fall from September to November. Temperatures hover in the 70s and 80s, ensuring a vibrant festival season throughout the region. Depending on when you visit, you may be able to experience the Hill Country Film Festival, the Wings Over the Hills Nature Festival, the Gillespie County Fair, Oktoberfest, or Fredericksburg Trade Days. You'll also enjoy great hotel rates during the shoulder seasons, but be sure to book your room in advance to secure the best discounts.
Winters in the Texas Hill Country are short-lived, so don't be afraid to visit between December and February. Hotel rates are at their lowest during the winter season due to the lack of tourism, so you can find the best deals and even splurge on a more upscale property without breaking the bank. Winter also brings some amazing festivals to the community, including the Fredericksburg Food & Wine Fest, Texas All-Star Big Band Bash, Annual Holiday Home Tour, and Light the Night Christmas Parade & AfterGlow Market.
If you do visit Fredericksburg during the summer, don't be surprised if the temperature surpasses 100 degrees. Despite the excessive heat, travelers flock to Fredericksburg for its unique cultural appeal, not to mention the fact that the kids are out of school and families line up at attractions, making the summer months the most crowded. While you won't find the lowest hotel rates, there are still good deals to be had if you plan your trip in advance and secure your room early.
If you plan your trip in advance, you may be able to take advantage of special discounts. Most area hotels, including Hampton Inn & Suites Fredericksburg, offer discounted rates for military families, government employees, corporate travelers, seniors, AARP members, and AAA members. Simply book at the special rate and present your proof of eligibility at the front desk.
Other properties, such as Fairfield Inn & Suites Fredericksburg, offer seasonal promotions, including last-minute weekend rates. If you're a rewards member, you can also redeem points for a free night or enjoy a discounted rate.

Visiting such a rich German-American culture, you may be wondering where to get some great Bavarian grub in Fredericksburg. Auslander is a rustic German-American eatery with a decidedly Texas vibe offering live music, outdoor seating, and a large beer selection. The menu consists of Bavarian favorites like sauerkraut and grilled sausage, schnitzel rolls, cabbage rolls, rouladen, and bratwurst, plus inspired dishes like Texaschnitzel.
Located on West Main Street, Friedhelm's Bavarian Inn features genuine “Gasthaus” dining rooms for an authentic German experience. The kitchen staff specializes in roulade, schnitzels, rippchen, sauerbraten, rump steak, and lendenschnitte, but there's also a nice sampling of meat, fish, burgers, and the Texas favorite: chicken-fried steak. You can also book one of the unique guest rooms for a German-inspired romantic getaway.
For a cozier experience, head to Otto's German Bistro on Austin Street. Sourcing local ingredients, Otto's German Bistro serves gourmet farm-to-table German cuisine with a Texas flair. Whether you come for brunch or dinner, you'll savor some incredible dishes like flammkuchen, duck schnitzel, Texas redfish, black forest torte, or bourbon apple pie.
Not really in the mood for Bavarian cuisine? You can't go wrong with Sunset Grill on South Adams Street. This local favorite is a New American bistro utilizing locally sourced ingredients to create savory omelets, salads, burgers, and seafood entrees, with gluten-free options available.

The wineries!
I'm familiar with Fredericksburg, having visited several times over the past five years, long enough to witness its changing nature. It has managed to retain traces of its German heritage while adapting to the proliferation of urban wine bars among the few German restaurants favored by tourists and locals. I recommend visiting the Naval Pacific War Museum. Going through it in depth means spending a couple of hours there so plan ahead.
Easy walk to Main St. Lots to see the wineries are plentiful.
Your staff gave us a list of recommendations for eating and shopping. We had a wonderful time shopping and dining.
We went to a rodeo in Luckenbach, so we were not there to take in too many sites. The hotel staff let us set up downstairs to play cards, it was great!
