Liverpool sees a wide range of temperature changes throughout the year, which is typical of a town this far north. Half the year is pleasant while the other half of the year sees cold temperatures. The best time to travel to Liverpool is during the May through October season when the flea markets are at their best, the farmers markets bring in fresh produce from the fields, and the temperatures are perfect for enjoying water activities on and near Onondaga Lake.
Summer is peak tourist season for Liverpool and the region, which means hotel rooms are going to be harder to find. You might think there are more rooms available, what with nearby Syracuse University being in recess for the summer. However, you don't want to take that bet if you want to stay in Liverpool.
Many travelers come to the region to enjoy time away from urban areas and to get back to nature for a while. Your best bet to get a good deal on a hotel room is to come in May or late September and early October after the families have gone back home from picking up or dropping off their family members at school.

When staying in Liverpool, you're going to want to stop at the most popular destinations in town. One of them, Heid's of Liverpool, is an Art Deco-style drive-in restaurant that has been in business since 1886. Over the decades, Heid's has developed its own unique flavor of hot dog supplied by Hofmann. There's nowhere else in the country you can find a hot dog that tastes like this, and you'll find the only way to satisfy a craving is to plan a return trip to Liverpool.
As previously mentioned, Liverpool's main industry centered around the salt mines. These mines once supplied the nation with salt and were directly responsible for the creation of Syracuse. The museum talks about the history salt mines played as an economic engine and how the salt was recovered from the saltwater. The mine itself is made from the timbers of the old salt warehouses for an additional touch of authenticity.
No trip to Liverpool is complete without a stop at Onondaga Lake. Here you'll find ample recreational activities that include spending time along the lakeshore, water activities such as kayaking and canoeing, and even a skate park that's perfect for kids to roll around. There's also a bike trail that has lanes separated from walkers and that follows the lakefront. If these activities are something you enjoy, you'll want to make sure to stay at a hotel that's near the lake for ease of access.
