Today it is a quiet, simple town with several listings on the National Register of Historic Places and the Maryland Civil War Trail.
Buckeystown Historic District represents beautiful examples of Queen Anne and Victorian buildings. The former industrial region of the town left a well-preserved residential district with architecture dating back to the 1870-1910 period.

Another local site worth mentioning is the Buckingham House and Industrial School Complex. A trade school for boys from low-income families operated from 1898 to 1944 within these walls. The complex consists of thirteen buildings, including the Federal-style Buckingham House. The territory preserves several significant archeological sites from Woodland Period.

In addition to several other historical spots around the town, like beautiful stone manors and the original mills along the river, it is definitely worth visiting one of the area's leisure parks to take in its modern-day beauty.
Drive by the Buckeystown Community Park. It provides a serene, calm green zone with picnic tables, grills, a playground, and direct access to the river. Families take advantage of the local fishing and boating opportunities throughout most of the year.

Definitely pay a visit to the Hedgeapple Farm. It's been around since 1731 and now is a modernized family-owned business. Buy some fresh produce or meat at the on-farm market or learn about the organization's educational and public outreach programs that support local growers and vendors as well as preserve the ecology of the area.

Another great spot to drop by is the Maynes Tree Farm. It is a place to be if you're seeking a beautiful Christmas tree - they will let you pick and cut your own and even offer you a tractor ride for the whole quest. The Tree Farm also hosts various events throughout the holiday season. Happenings like pumpkin patches and harvest fests are what they're known for. During the warmer months, you'll be able to enjoy fresh fruits and veggies, as well as pick your own strawberries on the territory.

Don't miss the Buckeystown Pub on your way through town. It is a true gem of the area with a casual, homie atmosphere. The pub features a lovely open patio for warmer weather and a tiki-style bar. The terrace has a large stage for live music events and open mic evenings. This is an excellent stop for a quick lunch and a fun night out in the town.
