The Fort Benning Army installation is located in Columbus as well, bringing a large number of visitors with connections to the military. This bustling city hosts state and national events, major conventions, important meetings, and more. Whether your visit is for business or pleasure, Columbus has what you need for a successful stay.

When to Visit Columbus, Georgia

The weather in Columbus is fairly mild year-round, though you'll enjoy just enough fluctuation to mark the passing of the seasons. Come between February and April for highs in the 60s and 70s and lows in the 40s and 50s. In February, the city hosts numerous Black History Month events. March plays host to the Junior League Attic Sale and Thunder in the Valley Air Show. In April, you can enjoy the Callaway Gardens Spring Celebration and RiverFest Weekend.

Things begin to heat up in May, with highs in the mid-80s. However, this is a great time to visit before summer crowds descend on the city. May's annual events include the Cotton Pickin' Fair, Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament, and Andersonville Antiques, Crafts, and Civil War Artifacts Fair.

June, July, and August all see average highs in the low 90s and lows in the 70s. If you don't mind the heat and humidity, you can join the flocks of family visitors in town on summer vacation. The Miss Georgia Pageant takes place in June, while July hosts Thunder on the Hooch and several Independence Day celebrations. In August, you'll find the Miss Columbus Pageant and Columbus International Festival.

The weather cools progressively through the autumn months. September's highs are in the mid-80s, as the city proudly hosts the Powers' Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival, The Tri-City Latino Festival at South Commons, the Plains Peanut Festival, and the Columbus-Fort Benning Shrine Club Circus. October has an average high of 77, offering pleasant weather for the Andersonville Historic Fair, Cotton Pickin' Fair, and Arts on the River. November's high drops to 68 for the Fountain City Classic and Steeplechase.

If you want to experience the holidays in Columbus, you can enjoy the Night of Lights, A Warm Springs Christmas, the Bi-City Christmas Parade, Callaway's Fantasy in Lights, and the Holiday Tour of Homes. Highs in the upper 50s and lows in the upper 30s offer a more comfortable Christmas than many other destinations.
