Glasgow, United Kingdom summarized

Being the largest city in Scotland, Glasgow is a Mecca for travelers from all over Europe and the world. It brims with attractions and things to do so that tourists who choose to visit the city will never be bored exploring it. The hotel is a mix of contemporary and period architecture that never fails to amaze travelers. There is so much that a traveler can do in Glasgow. Don't forget to check out Clyde Auditorium for shows and performances. Sometimes compared with the architecture of the Sydney Opera House, this auditorium is actually created with a ship's hull as inspiration. The auditorium has hosted plenty of world class performances. Famous for its music scene, the city has plenty of nightclubs and performance venues. The city is not just music and arts but also a mix of various activities and destinations. Lots of green parks are spread across the city so that travelers can breathe in some fresh air and also enjoy the views of these modern parks. Glasgow is also a big fan of football so that 3 major stadiums are located in the city. The city comes alive every time there are games in any of these stadiums.

'I remember living in a shared flat near the University Lane in Glasgow when I was 20 or 21. I remember all the good people of my Glasgow who were generous enough to give me odd jobs to do to make a living. No matter how long I live in LA, Glasgow is my first and last home.
Craig Ferguson, noted Scottish comedian and stage actor, thus gave way to his love for his home city at an even held to raise funds for a charity. Ferguson, like many others, left Glasgow in search for better opportunities for elsewhere, and ended up being a star host of a late night show in Los Angeles. Despite all the riches and the fame, Ferguson hasn't shied away from making public his affection for Glasgow. That's one thing that has always separated Glaswegians from others.

In a typically Scottish way, Glasgow residents do not take too kindly to any comparisons with fellow Englishmen “ and definitely not with Londoners. But still, being called the London on Clyde comes as an honor to Glasgow that not many Glaswegians would be willing to forgo.

At its very core, Glasgow is a city of historic monuments and impregnable castles, windy hills and uneven, vast stretches of lowlands, riverside piers and seagulls, to-and-fro traffic of merchant ships and incessant running of trains, universities and schools, opera houses and theaters, celebrities and commoners.

A trip to Glasgow (if that's what is on your mind these days) is usually a trip worth remembering for tourists. Loaded with innumerable sights and sounds, Glasgow, even in the strictest sense of the word, is a true tourism hotspot.

Budget Hotels in Glasgow

A trip to Glasgow can be made a whole lot more enjoyable and inexpensive if you choose to stay at one of many cheap hotels that are housed by the city of Glasgow. The speciality of such cheap hotels here is that most of them are built in a way to provide the most basic amenities at most reasonable prices. Many take the form of bed and breakfast units, while others take the form of cheap inns that are perfectly fit for the stay of a night or two, if not longer.

Premier Inn Hotel operates in at least four locations in Glasgow, all of which are reputed to be comfortably cheap lodging options, fit for short stays. Out of these, Premier Inn Hotel at George Square is particularly popular with travelers because of its proximity with the railway station

Travelodge Glasgow at Paisley Road also offers basic amenities at affordable prices. Glasgow Pond Hotel can be chosen by tourists who are traveling with families, as it is often considered to be the best among family friendly budget hotels in Glasgow.

Raising The Bar Higher

Living in a cheap hotel is often not the idea of a great trip that some tourists associate themselves with. These usually form the class of tourists who love to indulge in all the pleasures of comfort that a luxury hotel is ready to accord them with.

Living in a luxury hotel in Glasgow can be quite an expensive affair, if you stretch your day anywhere beyond 3 nights. In American currency, $499 per night is an average figure indicating the nightly price charged by such Glasgow hotels per guest!

Hotel Indigo Glasgow is worthy of a special mention in this category. Located on the outskirts of the city limits, Hotel Indigo is famous for its Victorian architecture and a fully-fledge Scottish kitchen.

Hotel Novotel Glasgow is also a crowd favorite, marking the excellence of services that Novotel is best known for around the world. Sherbrooke Castle Hotel is an aristocratic house turned into a hotel, usually used for lavish wedding parties.

Independent Hotels in Glasgow

Glasgow is home to some of the most beautiful independent hotel and resort properties in the UK. Undulating stretches of hills and grass make for a perfect golf setting that can only be accentuated by the presence of a stately home rented out for a family vacation.

Holiday rentals has been a long standing tradition in Glasgow tourism, and the one that makes sense, too. Renting an old villa or a modern apartment is usually much more economical in the long run, as compared to paying the nightly price for a lavish suite in posh hotels in Glasgow.

Outskirts of the city are dotted with many such holiday rentals that are quite difficult to find vacant, come summer months.

Things to Remember While Sightseeing in Glasgow

Glasgow, contrary to a popular perception, is not merely a city of castles. There are quite a few other attractions to see and events to attend if you are thorough enough in your research to unearth them.

Hiring a local guide is often recommended while in Glasgow. But then again, it should be you who needs to be making calls regarding which attractions to attend and which ones to skip. By relying too much on a guide, you would be forsaking the very possibility of chalking your trip your way.

Also, having a good enough knowledge of local dialect and vernacular can be quite handy, especially to break ice with locals.

Most Fitting Time to Visit Glasgow

The most ideal time to visit Glasgow is the month of May. On a broader scale, any week in April to June can be good enough to allow you to enjoy your trip to Glasgow the most. These weeks are usually marked by warm weather, long hours of daylight, perfectly balmy air, many food and art festivals and local events jam-packed into Glasgow's social calendar. On the side, however, this period also marks the annual hiking of room tariffs by most Glasgow hotels.

Planning your trip to Glasgow on a weekend makes the most sense as the streets of Glasgow are vacated to a certain degree during weekends as almost all travelers who were in Glasgow on their business return to their respective homes.
