The Moncton center is around 1 mile northwest of Downtown Moncton and 4 miles southeast of Magnetic Hill.

Moncton, New Brunswick, was incorporated as a city in 1890, but it was settled much earlier than that. The first residents were the French Acadians, who named their town Le Coude (“the elbow”) because of its location in a bend of the Petitcodiac River. After the Acadians were deported in 1755 by the British, a group of German settlers from Pennsylvania made New Brunswick their home in 1766. Following the same line of thinking as the Acadians, they called their community the Bend. The city's current name did not come into usage until the 1860s and honors the British commander Robert Monckton, who presided over the deportations. More from this guide...

Graph: Next 20 Days of Moncton Hotel Prices

Rates shown are nightly rates before taxes and do not necessarily reflect all Moncton, NB discounts available. The chart reflects the cheapest Moncton hotel for each day and each star rating category.

Today, Moncton is home to nearly 70,000 people, one-third of whom speak French as their first language. The city has always been a center of commerce, first as a shipbuilding and port town, then later as a railway center. Modern Moncton is still known as “the Hub of the Maritimes” due to its central location for road and air transportation. Over the years, Moncton has grown into a major distribution and telecommunications center for the region.

When to Visit Moncton, NB

New Brunswick experiences all four seasons, and each has its own charms. For fresh maple syrup and fiddleheads, visit during spring from April to June. Temperatures can get as low as -3 degrees Celsius (about 27 degrees Fahrenheit) or as high as 22 degrees Celsius (about 72 degrees Fahrenheit). Summer temperatures of 8 to 28 degrees Celsius (about 46 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit) last from July through September. During this season, New Brunswick boasts the warmest saltwater in Canada, and Moncton's Magic Mountain Water Park begins to draw crowds. Fresh lobster and other seafood is plentiful.

Fall brings breathtaking foliage, best viewed from mid-September to late October. Visitors will enjoy the various fall festivals and activities, which include apple picking and corn mazes. Because fall belongs to the off-season, hotel rooms can be booked for lower rates than you would find during summer. Expect temperatures to be slightly cooler than those in spring, eventually dropping off to well below freezing in the winter months of December through March. New Brunswick consistently gets more than 100 inches of snow (300 to 400 cm, to be exact) each year, making it a great destination for winter fun, including sledding, skiing, pond hockey, and snowmobiling.

Luxury Hotel Options in Moncton, NB

4 Star Average Prices: £119.87

For those who like to travel in style, Moncton has four luxury options: Bower on Queen, Bower on Elmwood, Bower on Broadway, and Bower on Lester. All are four-star boutique hotels with rates around $150 per night, named after the street they are located on.

These hotels offer holiday home rentals in downtown Moncton, with a set-up reminiscent of an apartment or condo. Furnishings are elegant and sleek, with high-end touches like stainless steel appliances. Some amenities vary, but each property includes an in-room washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as a minibar and a full kitchen. Suites also feature a sitting area, dining area, and private entrance. Wi-Fi and parking are free, but the round-trip airport shuttle is not.

Although each has its own unique charm, none of the four options will disappoint. Open-concept suites with private patios are available at Bower on Queen and Bower on Lester. You will find a gas stove at Bower on Elmwood, along with a rainfall showerhead. Suites at each location except Bower on Elmwood include picture windows. Bower even describes the four differently, noting the modern, European-inspired suites of the Queen, the cosmopolitan comfort of the Elmwood, the residential pace of the Broadway, and the Lester's location high above the hustle and bustle of downtown.
