The Tallahassee center point is around the area of New Capitol Building and the area of Museum of Art Tallahassee.
Because Tallahassee is a major college town, you'll want to be aware of college events that might coincide with your trip, making hotel rates go up. Hotel rates are often high right around the start of school, for example, when parents are helping their children move in and need somewhere to stay. If you're visiting because of school events, take advantage of any discounts you may qualify for, like AAA.
Winter in Tallahassee is mild, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. Winter is peak season for most of Florida, so you may find that rates increase a bit from December to February. These increases probably won't mirror the extreme rate hikes that occur in areas around the popular beaches, however. If you can avoid summer, do so, because Tallahassee gets hot and humid. Temperatures often soar above 90, and the average high doesn't dip below 70 again until November.
Any discount is a good discount, and if you're a member of AAA, AARP, or the military, you'll qualify for great discounts at many Tallahassee hotels. At the Best Western Plus Panhandle Capital Inn & Suites, the military discount is stellar. It beats both the AAA and the AARP discount, taking down the price of several room configurations below $85, depending on when you book. A stay at the Best Western Plus gets you a tasty continental breakfast, a location near the airport, an outdoor pool, and free Wi-Fi.
Like the Best Western Plus, Comfort Suites Tallahassee Universities at the Capitol has a great military rate that takes the price of some of their rooms below $100 a night, depending on the season. If the military discount does not apply to you, the AAA or senior rates will still save you some money. The Comfort Suites is near shopping and restaurants and has overwhelmingly positive guest reviews. Enjoy a free buffet breakfast, an outdoor pool, and free Wi-Fi.
At the Econo Lodge North, get an even better rate on an already low-cost hotel when you use your AAA or AARP discount. Rooms per night fall beneath $45 with these fantastic discounts. The Econo Lodge is within a few miles of Florida State University, making it a choice location for those visiting students, or revisiting their alma mater. You'll enjoy amenities like free Wi-Fi, a picnic area with grills, and free breakfast.
The Econo Lodge Tallahassee sits in the center of Tallahassee, which means its average room price is about $20 more than the Econo Lodge North. However, if you're an AAA or an AARP member, you'll get a significant discount on your nightly rate. The military discount is just a few dollars less than the AAA discount, but it's still worthwhile. The basic amenities include free Wi-Fi and a free breakfast.
You're probably looking for your favorite amenities at the right nightly rate, but sifting through hotels can be tedious. That's why you should focus on the value options that Tallahassee has to offer. A stay at the Governors Inn puts you in the center of Tallahassee's downtown area and offers tons of amenities, without charging you luxury prices. They have 41 total rooms, with eight suites and two handicap rooms. A stay in a queen room with an antique four-poster bed can be lower than $100 a night, depending on the season.
Choose the Wyndham Garden Tallahassee Capitol for nightly rates in a king room for less than $90 and lots of extra convenience. The hotel has a bar, restaurant, and an outdoor pool. A multilingual staff, laundry facilities, and free Wi-Fi make everything ultra-convenient during your stay. They also offer a complimentary airport shuttle, and a local shuttle that runs within a five-mile radius of the property.
The Courtyard by Marriott Tallahassee Capitol is a three-star property where you can find nightly rates below $85 if you're a AAA member. Guests rave about the friendly service, the fantastic location, and the great food at the hotel's restaurant. Spend some time in the outdoor pool, or do some exercise in the 24-hour fitness room. Free Wi-Fi, a picnic area, and a snack bar will make your stay extra pleasant. If you're in a hurry, express check-in and check-out will help you make the most of your time.
One of the main reasons people visit Tallahassee is because of FSU. Which hotels will put you the closest to campus, so you can spend your entire visit without getting in the car? Start with Four Points by Sheraton Tallahassee Downtown, which is just half a mile from the FSU campus. This three-star hotel has rates starting below $110 a night, and offers amenities like an outdoor pool, a spa tub, a pillowtop bed, and free Wi-Fi.
The Residence Inn Tallahassee Universities at the Capitol is three-fifths of a mile from the FSU campus. This Marriott property is a three-star all-suite hotel, offering amenities like free airport transportation, free breakfast, and free Wi-Fi. The lobby has a fireplace, the hotel features a 24-hour business center, and you'll enjoy swimming in the outdoor pool. The Residence Inn also allows you to bring pets for a surcharge. If you wanted to do some relaxing, dip into the spa tub.

I am a native of Tallahassee so I somewhat knew my way around. I was there for my 60th high school class reunion at the Capital City Country Club. It was lots of fun and I also made a point of going by my high school and college (FSU) as well as two different places I used to live. A fun stop was the Garnet and Gold shop at the Governor's Mall.

Came to Tallahassee to watch the National Cross Country races. Loved it, well run meet.
While I was in training for 3 days, my wife explored the town and encountered wonderful, warm people who assisted with directions and identified sites of interest. She was directed to the town of Thomasville, Georgia, which is just across the Florida/Georgia border. In addition to dining at a culinary delight of a restaurant named Jonah's, Barb toured a remarkable estate: Pebble Hill Plantation. She gushed about it. That might be a nice place for visitors to Tallahassee to explore if they wish to broaden their "discovery radius"!
