It's a phenomenal, clean city with a plethora of fantastic options.
Milwaukee has a humid continental climate with distinct seasons throughout the year. Summers tend to be warm and humid, with high temperatures in the low to mid-80s in July and August. Late spring to early fall is the rainy season in Milwaukee, and the city receives an average of three to four inches of rain each month. A few sprinkles don't deter the crowds, however, and summer is typically Milwaukee's busiest season for tourism.
Winters can get cold in Brew City, and high temperatures average about 30 degrees in December and January. Though Milwaukee winters can get snowy, weather in the city tends to be much milder than it is in the surrounding suburban areas.
As the City of Festivals, it should come as no surprise that Milwaukee is home to several popular annual events. Time your visit right, and you'll get to join in some of the city's diverse cultural celebrations. For instance, German Fest and Oktoberfest acknowledge Milwaukee's German roots with food and fun, while Polish Fest celebrates the city's longstanding Polish heritage with culinary and cultural events. Every summer, Milwaukee also hosts Festa Italiana, the nation's largest Italian-American event.
Summer is prime time for music and community festivals in Milwaukee, too. Summerfest brings over 800 bands and nearly 1 million attendees to Brew City each July, while the Wisconsin State Fair attracts record crowds with carnival rides, agricultural competitions, and fair food. If your visit falls during the autumn, don't miss Trainfest, the nation's largest model railroad festival.
Make your deal even sweeter by seeking out hotel discounts on Milwaukee accommodations. AAA members save at the Best Western Milwaukee West and other area hotels. AARP members and senior travelers get 10 percent off standard room rates at the Ambassador Hotel Milwaukee, while government employees and members of the military get guaranteed low rates at The Iron Horse Hotel.
Get unbeatable value at these top-rated mid-range hotels in the City of Festivals.
Book your stay at the Ambassador Hotel Milwaukee, and you'll get plenty of value out of your Milwaukee vacation. This downtown hotel offers easy access to the historic Pabst Mansion and the Milwaukee Art Museum, and its two restaurants ensure that you'll have a great meal during your stay. The hotel's 132 guestrooms are equipped with minibars, flat-screen TVs, and designer toiletries. Have a quick breakfast at the hotel's restaurant in the morning, and then work it off at the fitness center. Business travelers will appreciate the 24-hour business center and the express check-in services.
Situated near the U.S. Cellular Arena and the Pabst Theater, the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee is a smart choice in the City of Festivals. Rock out to the iPod docking station, use the free Wi-Fi to plan excursions in Milwaukee, and catch the latest movies on the flat-screen TV. This large hotel also has a well-equipped fitness center, room service, and a bar and lounge. Reserve a spot on the airport shuttle for a small surcharge.
At the Milwaukee Public Museum, you'll learn all about the history of the city and have the opportunity to look into the future. Walk through the permanent “Streets of Old Milwaukee” exhibit, which depicts the city as it was more than 100 years ago, and then check out temporary exhibits on robots, space, and science.
Race on over to the Harley-Davidson Museum, where you can climb on vintage motorcycles, learn how Harleys are made, and see photos from epic races. At the nearby Milwaukee Art Museum, see some of the Great Lakes' best art collections that spans from antiquity to today.
The kids will love a trip to the Milwaukee County Zoo, a 200-acre center that's home to more than 2,000 mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish. Don't miss the reopened aviary, where you can see peacocks strut their stuff and much more. Next, make your way to the riverfront for a scenic stroll along the Milwaukee RiverWalk. Here you'll find great downtown views, numerous restaurants, and even river cruises.
If you visit during baseball season, put a visit to Milwaukee's Miller Park at the top of your list. Get tickets for a Brewers game, and kick back and relax in this state-of-the-art stadium. Keep an eye out for special event days to get cool team collectibles or significantly discounted tickets.
