The Grand Rapids center is approximately the area of Mac Rostie Art Center and the area of Judy Garland Children's Museum.
The location of Grand Rapids on the Mesabi Iron Range causes it to have long, frigid winters and warm summers. The average low temperature between November and February is in the single digits, with temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit frequently occurring in January. Between these months, Grand Rapids also gets an average of 40 inches of snow. The tourism drops significantly during the winter because of the cold temperatures, so if you're planning to visit during this time, you'll see lower hotel rates. The average highs during the summer months are in the low 70-degree to mid-80-degree range.
Quite a few annual events take place in Grand Rapids, which can also cause an increase in hotel prices. These include the Home & Cabin Show and the White Oak Classic Dog Sled in March, the Children's Fair in April, and the Wizard of Oz Festival in June. During the summer, the Timberman Triathlon, Tall Timber Days, and Grand Slam of Golf Tournament take place. The National Ruffed Grouse Society Annual Hunt occurs each October, while the WInterGlo Festival happens every December.

One of the most popular attractions in Grand Rapids is the Forest History Center. This living history museum includes costumed interpreters who guide visitors through a logging camp that is recreated to be similar to what the area would have been like in the late 19th century. As you tour the camp, you'll learn more about the history of logging of white pines, as well as how this industry has impacted the economy today. Along with the recreated camp, the site has miles of natural trails to explore, an interpretive museum, and educational programming.
If you're interested in historic architecture, be sure to visit Old Central School, located in the downtown area. This structure was built in the Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style in 1895 and is included on the National Register of Historic Places. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the many natural areas surrounding Grand Rapids during the warmer times of the year.
