As a southern city, Charleston typically has mild winters and hot, humid summers. For the best weather, most tourists prefer to visit during the pleasant spring and fall seasons. April and May tend to offer the best weather with the most sunshine, although hotel prices can be high during this high season. The fall features similarly pleasant weather with slightly more rain showers and generally lower costs.
If you can stand the heat, summer can be a good time to visit Charleston, especially during a school break. To save big on hotel prices, however, consider visiting during the winter. The weather is cool with temperatures in the 50s, but holiday events and other festivals keep the atmosphere perfectly warm.
If you're a member of a few select groups, you won't have to worry about paying full price at Charleston hotels. At Zero George Street, AAA members save 10 percent or more on king and queen rooms. At hotels like the Fairfield Inn & Suites Charleston North/Ashley Phosphate, senior travelers and AARP members get the lowest rates available, generally 10 percent lower than the standard room rate. Military members and government employees can rely on low rates at hotels like the Best Western Magnolia Inn & Suites.

Sitting atop the peninsula's rocky cliffs, Sorrento remains Italy's last town of significance on the side of the bay. The next city of importance is Pompeii, long reduced to volcanic ashes. Sorrento is completely a resort, with its desolate location and mild climate drawing tourists looking for an exclusive getaway for more than two hundred years. The Southern Italian city enjoys resort year-round prices, so it's generally better to keep a few extra to enjoy the rest of the package-tour territory. The small town in Campania is reachable by the Circumvesuviana rail line, which offers guests with scenic spectacles of the Isle of Capri, the Vesuvius, and the Bay of Naples. Guests can also choose to enter the city through the high cliffs of Amalfi Drive. Numerous ferry boats can take you in the town, which have once carried the likes of Luciano Pavarotti and Enrico Caruso. Never leave the resort town without sampling its limoncello, and other offerings of olives, nuts, fruits, and wines.
