The Carmel center is about the area of Carmel Mission and the area of The Crossroads Carmel.
Carmel's Mediterranean climate makes weather extremely consistent here. The temperature rarely dips below 55 or exceeds 70 degrees, so you're almost guaranteed not to shiver or sweat. However, unlike most areas of the world, fall offers the most glorious weather here. Showers might interrupt your vacation if you visit in summer, spring, or winter, but the sun shines nearly every day between September and November.
Summers might boast warmer temperatures, but the heavy fog can make mornings less than ideal for a stroll along the beach or a few hours of sightseeing. However, the fog burns off by noon on most days, so you won't ruin your entire vacation if you plan your visit in July or August.
If you're hoping to visit Carmel on the cheap, you might consider a winter visit. You'll spend less money on lodging and transportation, and fewer crowds will get in the way of dining and entertainment. Just remember to pack a slicker and a hat to protect yourself from the frequent showers. You might also want to bring light layers so you can adjust your wardrobe to suit the temperature and humidity.
If you're hoping to secure excellent rates at Carmel hotels, consider booking your stay early or during the winter off-season. The Best Western Plus Carmel Bay, the La Playa Carmel, and the Colonial Terrace each offer discounts for AAA members, while the Tally Ho Inn issues discounts for government workers as well as military service members.
Bargain hunters can find several reasonably priced hotels in Carmel that pack in plenty of amenities. You'll have to spend more than you would at the more affordable hotels in Monterey and Seaside, but you'll get to stay in Carmel, and you'll have access to more upscale perks.
The Carmel Mission Inn is a prime example. Rooms at this unique venue cost around $160 per night, though you have your choice of several room sizes and configurations. Each room comes with a personal safe, iPod docking station, refrigerator, hair dryer, 37-inch flat-screen television, and coffeemaker. You'll love the modern furniture and artwork, and the magnificent views from your balcony will tempt you into staying at the hotel instead of exploring gorgeous Carmel.
Enjoy at least one meal and a cocktail at the Fuse Lounge, an upscale, elegant restaurant with an impressive menu. The hotel offers electric-vehicle charging stations, a heated pool and spa, massage services, private gardens, and convenient room service. There's also an on-site fitness center if you feel like working up a sweat.
The Colonial Terrace is another high-value hotel option in Carmel. You'll pay around $170 per night for a room at this quaint Colonial venue, which offers all the bed-and-breakfast perks you've grown to love. You can choose from several guest rooms and suites, each of which comes with a flat-screen television, free wireless internet access, refrigerators, coffee makers, and hair dryers. Some also feature fireplaces and full kitchenettes.
Head to the reception area for a free continental breakfast every morning. The Colonial Terrace also offers afternoon refreshments at 4 p.m., and there's a gorgeous patio where you can read a book, chat with fellow travelers, or enjoy the surrounding gardens. The courteous staff will help you find your way around Carmel and supply you with extra towels and anything else you need during your stay.
Since there are no street numbers, you have to get creative when navigating through Carmel. Locals often give directions using landmarks and detailed descriptions, and if you stay in town long enough, you'll start to do the same.
You can rent a car in Carmel, which works best if you plan to visit other cities in the area. There are also several limousine and town car services if you prefer to travel in style. When you get to your hotel, check with the front desk or concierge to learn more about navigating the somewhat confusing streets in Carmel.
When it comes to California destinations, it doesn't get more beautiful or peaceful than Carmel. Choose one of the above hotels and book your room today. Use Carmel as your final destination or as one stop on a tour of the California coast.

Loved the Carmel Coffee Shop opening early and the pharmacy was used two times!
My wife and I have been to Carmel many times, since when my son was a young child. The city's charm and quaintness has always appealed to us!

Nice people; safe area.
So much to do. Great escape from the urban sprawl of too much of California! Visited restaurants and stores plenty.
The restaurants are excellent, there are many art shops with incredible paintings of the area and the town is dog friendly with a fantastic beach. Carmel is one the the best places to visit in CA.
Walkable.

Beautiful, friendly and very clean hotel!
Where we had our honeymoon 50 years ago. We like the charm and great restaurants. Bought a bunch of wine from our wine tasting experiences!
We come every year to Carmel because it is so unique and beautiful and for the nearby golf.
We ate at “Aw Shucks”…delicious! We went shopping on Ocean Ave. and bought some amazing oils and other goodies at Olivier's…spent some time at the gorgeous Carmel Beach with the white, baby powder sand and then explored the historic and very beautiful Carmel Mission.
Proximity to 17 Mile Drive.

Everything! The beach, the shops, the architecture, the coziness, the walkability, the people, the food, must I continue?
Carmel was great and I love the restaurants!! Will defiantly come back.
Love walking and shops and restaurants!
Nice, beautiful and clean!
Beautiful, stunning area.
I love Carmel. It is quaint, unique, personable and classy. The restaurants are memorable, accommodating and quietly invite you to return.
What did I like? What's not to like? It is truly one of the most charming towns I have ever been in and it rivals places in Europe. The problem is it is surrounded by the most ghastly urban nightmare I have ever experienced. I am Canadian and I doubt I will ever see the inside of California again.
Casanova restaurant is the best. We also love the Carmel Bakery, and enjoy casual dinner at the Hog's Breath Inn. The city is so dog friendly! I loved seeing dogs in restaurants all over town, and in hotels as well. The shops were great, including something for everyone - amazing cowboy boots, art, gifts, even Christmas ornaments. A very welcoming town with a friendly, beachy vibe that is hard to beat.
