The Carlsbad center point is about the area of Legoland California and 3 miles west of Carlsbad McClellan Palomar Airport.
Although there are certainly better times to visit Carlsbad, CA, the village doesn't necessarily have a high season. That is, visitors needn't feel put off by the idea of seasonality because Carlsbad is a winning destination practically any day of the year. That's partly due to the city's semi-arid Mediterranean climate, which offers up an average of 263 days of sunny weather. Can you imagine feeling the sun for one-third of the year? That gives you so much more freedom. You can always choose to visit a little before or after the busiest season, which can save you major money.
Summertime is arguably the best time to visit Carlsbad. Throughout June, July, and August temperatures average around 70 sunny degrees of delicious dry heat - the exact kind of heat you want to experience when you're planning a beach trip. If you choose to book your stay in May, September, or October, however, you still get to enjoy all that warm weather, but you miss the high season by a few months. That often leads to less expensive room rates.
Owing to the climate in Carlsbad, it doesn't get that cold in fall and winter. Snowfall is rare and rain is far more common. You can still enjoy sunny days and warm weather well into November and December, so you might choose to spend the holidays by the ocean instead of in a cold, snowy location. On the other hand, if you want to experience a little California chill, consider visiting Carlsbad at the beginning of the year. It's moderate between January and April, so although swimming isn't necessarily an option, you can definitely still enjoy yourself.
Hotel owners in Carlsbad know exactly who they're catering to, especially during the popular seasons. They recognize the value of providing deals and discounts to the tourists who pour into the seaside village every year. As such, many hotels offer a variety of discounts to seniors, people in the military and the government, AAA members, and professional groups hosting business trips.
The best part is that you can find a fine hotel that provides these discounts to guests. You might be able to stay at a nicer hotel than you anticipated. Look into the Hilton Garden Inn, Carlsbad by the Sea, and Hyatt House, all of which are three-star hotels with plenty to offer. The Grand Pacific Palisades Resort and Hotel and the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa offer resort-appropriate luxuries for affordable rates, as well, so there's no saying that you can't enjoy a little luxury on your holiday regardless of your budget.
To get the best value for your money, you generally need to go with a mid-tier hotel that falls somewhere between inexpensive and luxurious. Look for room rates that average between $100 per and $200 per night. That way, you can safely afford a long stay without sacrificing quality or too much money. You can afford a hotel that provides all the amenities you need to keep you comfortable and let you know you're on vacation, but you won't spend hundreds of dollars a night.
Consider hotels like the La Quinta Inn & Suites when you want the best value. It's a solid hotel with fantastic reviews that costs less than $200 each night. The Holiday Inn and the Quality Inn offer similar values, along with must-haves such as pools and free wireless. To enjoy a more luxurious stay without paying an equally luxurious price, look into hot-spots such as the Courtyard or the Fairfield Inn & Suites, both of which are Marriott hotels. The Hyatt Place, which services both San Diego and Carlsbad, is another excellent choice, especially since you get a breakfast buffet, as well.
In fact, that's one of the things you should think about when you're considering which hotels offer the best value. Always look at the amenities and freebies before booking. In addition to free wireless, look for free breakfast offers, free parking, and on-site provisions, such as restaurants, shops, gyms, and pools.
Carlsbad, CA is a beach town, so naturally there's plenty of coastlines for you to explore. From sailing and swimming to combing the beach and exploring the boardwalk, you can easily spend most of your vacation near the water. There's nothing wrong with that and, in fact, it's what many visitors choose to do. However, Carlsbad has so much more to offer. If you're looking for family friendly activities, for example, you can take in Legoland, visit the stunning Flower Fields, or camp out at Carlsbad State Beach.
The Craftsmanship Museum and the Museum of Making Music are ideal for those rare rainy days, but if you really want to see Carlsbad, you need to explore its nature-related attractions. Visitors love fishing at the Batiquitos Lagoon, the Buena Vista Lagoon, and the Agua Hedionda Lagoon, and you'll never see anything lovelier than the picturesque Oceanside Pier.
The Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park is a must-see for lovers of history and architecture, while the Sea Life Aquarium is the best spot for lovers of marine life. If you really need to relax, it's worthwhile to take a tour of the Witch Creek Winery. Plus don't forget that Disney isn't all that far away. There are strawberry farms, speedways, and fresh farmers' markets, as well, not to mention incredible food tours that will leave you stuffed, but hungry for more. The best day, of course, involves combining a food tour with a vineyard tour.
Carlsbad, CA, is practically the perfect vacation spot no matter what you like to do. It's the one place where you can soak up the sun at the beach, go sailing, and spend all your time on the sand, explore the area while getting in touch with nature, or visit nearby cities, historical sites, and vineyards. You can relax in the California sunshine as you take a break from the real world. Whether you take in the sights or spend your whole trip at Moonlight Beach, your trip to Carlsbad will become the vacation by which you judge all others.
