The Smithfield center is about 4 miles west of Selma-Smithfield Amtrak and 13 miles southwest of Johnston Family Care Center.
Smithfield, North Carolina, may be located in what is colloquially known as The South, but it doesn't get as hot as you might think. If you take a trip to Smithfield, you won't experience warmer temperatures until May, although it does start warming up in April. Temperatures reach the high 80s for most of the summer and only start to cool down toward the end of October.
Winter temperatures between November and February see an average high of 50 degrees during the day and lows averaging 32 degrees at night. If you're planning on being in town during the colder months, bring a jacket to avoid the chill that Jack Frost brings.
The region sees its fair share of rain during the summer, and the summertime is considered the wetter season with an average 34 percent chance of rain any given day between late May and early September. The drier months see an average of 25 percent chance of precipitation, and snow isn't unheard of in the coldest months. Make sure to bring along some warm clothes if you're visiting during these months.

Downtown Smithfield is an old-fashioned Main Street full of antique stores, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and more. The town has put significant investment into the buildings and encouraged small businesses to fill the storefronts. The end result is a vibrant street full of interesting things to do, see, touch, smell, and taste. Architectural buffs will enjoy viewing the building designs from different eras all clustered together in one central location and checking out the buildings that are on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Hastings House, built in 1839, is one of the oldest homes in Smithfield. It can be found along the Neuse River Walk. The home's significance comes from being a pre-battle command post for General Joseph E. Johnston prior to an attempt to stop General Sherman during the Battle of Bentonville. In a twist of fate, Sherman would later occupy the house after the battle.
Shadowhawk is an Old West town that was built from scratch by William Drake, a former actor. Over the years, he constructed a full-scale town complete with a jail, chapel, bordello, and more. It's so authentic looking that it's been used for movie sets. Drake left town a few years ago, but the current owners — a husband-and-wife team — are keeping the town going. To date, they've renovated buildings, improved upon the existing designs, and have turned it into a destination that's unlike any other in Smithfield.
