Located just west of Biscayne Bay, Cutler Ridge is an unincorporated community whose motto is, “an excellent place to live, work, and play.” The Tequesta people originally inhabited the area, followed by Spanish settlers in the 16th century. For 300 years, settlers lived alongside the Seminole, who dominated the region after the Tequesta disappeared. With the area prone to Seminole attacks, however, the government encouraged the settlement and cultivation of southern Dade County.
Many settlers attempted to establish farmlands, including Dr. William Cutler. Dr. Cutler purchased 600 acres with the hope of creating a farming utopia, but he was unable to convince enough people to build on his land. Even so, a few settlers remained near Biscayne Bay, and they named their newly created town Cutler in honor of Dr. Cutler. Eventually, the railroad increased the region's population exponentially. After World War II, a local developer purchased 1,400 acres to create Cutler Ridge, the area's first, large-scale subdivision.
While the area is commonly referred to as Cutler Ridge, the actual town was incorporated as Cutler Bay in 2005. Today, the town is home to over 40,000 residents and serves as a great home base for exploring everything southeastern Florida has to offer.
When would be the best time to visit the town of Cutler Ridge, FL?
