Caddo and Comanche Native Americans first called the Allen area home. Immigrants began to arrive in the 1840s, and the town was named and established in 1872.
In 1874, the Allen Water Station was constructed for use by the railroad.
The first Texas train robbery occurred in Allen in 1878 when a gang of robbers led by Sam Bass stole about $1,500 from one of the rail cars.
