The Fort Pierre center point is around 2 miles southwest of S D Discovery Center and Aquarium and 2 miles southwest of Natl Guard of Sth Dkta Museum.

The town is located on the banks of the Missouri River in Stanley County, in the central part of the state. Fort Pierre was first discovered by Francois and Louis-Joseph Gaultier de La VĂ©rendrye in 1743. The city was named after Pierre Chouteau, Jr., who built Fort Pierre to replace the old LaFramboise trading post. Fort Pierre was the starting point for many famous expeditions into the American West, including the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the Dakota Territory Expedition, and the Black Hills Expedition. It was also an important stop on the Santee Trail, the main route for settlers moving west from the Midwest in the late 1800s. Today, Fort Pierre is a small town with a population of just over 2,000 people. But it still has a rich history and some interesting attractions for tourists. The town is home to the Fort Pierre Depot Museum, Fort Volunteer, and Verendrye Monument. The town also hosts the Fort Pierre Chouteau National Historic Site, which commemorates the fur trade era in the American West. The site includes a replica of the original fort, as well as a visitors center with exhibits on the history of the fur trade. Fort Pierre Fourth of July Roundup and Rodeo is one of the most interesting and unique events in the United States. It is the only rodeo that is held in a fort, and it is also one of the oldest rodeos in the country. The event has been held annually since 1876, and it attracts cowboys and cowgirls from all over the country. The Fort Pierre Fourth of July Roundup and Rodeo is a great opportunity to see some of the best rodeo action in the country and to learn about the history of the American West.
